How to replace the horn switch in airbag module?

Seems the majority of the people who have problem with horn is because the horn is not working. My situation is my horn is "working" all the time so that I was forced to remove the fuse to keep it from horning. I am pretty sure that it is the problem with the horn switch inside the airbag module. The service manual goes against further disassembling of any component inside the airbag module because of safety concern. Is there anyone who has the experience of replacing this horn switch inside the airbag mdule? Or buying a new airbag module is the only solution to solve this problem?

Just got a quote back from www.fivestarairbags.com, whick asks $150 for a replacement airbag module. They said that this sticky horn problem is a common issue with these airbags. But I still wanna know if anybody has other solution for this sticky horn problem.

you could also rewire the horn circuit and just put in a new switch somewhere like in the dash so when you have to honk your horn all you do is push some button you have in the dash or something. kinda weird but one of the cheaper solutions to getting it done.

Webhosting for less than $3 a month? put "pinoyesv6" as a promo code.

pinoyesv6, your idea is definitely doable, and I think I can live with that. But I don't know if this will be able to pass the state inspection (TX)?

bronxbombr, Thanks for the offer. But I am still looking into the possibility of getting mine fixed. If I simply buy one, what about the used one? The old airbag has not been deployed yet. I probably will not be able to simply throw it into trash can since it is actually a small bomb.

you can throw it if its deployed. and you can deploy it yourself, but the potential for severe injury is there.
you could also call your local dealership and see if they would take it or know of a place to take it.

I have the opposite problem, instead of my horn getting stuck, it doesn't work at all. It went out for a few weeks, then I could use it again for a couple weeks, then it just plain stopped working.

ohgrfreak, I think that we are in the same situation to replace the airbag module just because of the faulty horn switch, if there is no other solution available. Otherwise, we will not be able to pass the state inspection.

mine goes when my car is cold. if it drops below 30 or so at night, you can bet my horn and tachometer needle wont work at all until the car reaches operating temp. then they both mysteriously pop back into existence.

    finicky little cars...
