New Key Idea for the 8g

Hey guys I have an idea. It may work or may not work. TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. My friend has a 03 Civic SI had the OEM key and the keyless remote separately like ours. But one day he got the idea getting at 03-04 Accord key that has the keyless remote on it. My friend got that key and got it cut. Then cut out the chip out of his original key and place it in the Accord key. It worked too!

Recently, I just saw the new (06) Eclipse GT has a remote built in with the key. So I think to myself maybe it is possible for our cars too. I just went to the mitsu dealer. They said they could cut it. But the key itself here costs $100. On the other hand the programing part they said it might work or might not work. Although, there is the possiblity of cutting out the chip out of the original key and it MIGHT work like my friend's case.
Only thing that is stopping me is that the key is a $100 (+80 programming not sure if it would work.) and I only have to two keys to my 8g. So I don't want to take the risk right now. But if one of you guys want to try this let me know if it works.

<<<AGAIN TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE AND RISK. I'AM ONLY PUTTING THE IDEA OUT>>>

Looks cool, if it works I'm down. Here's the key to my Murano:

It's a proximity key, I just touch the door handle and it unlocks and sets the seats and mirrors for me, and just turn the ignition knob and it starts...no "key" at all is needed! If you can get this in a Galant, I'll do your friggin' laundry!

Not all 8 G have a chip, so you wouldn't have to pay for programing...only cutting.

I know I am bringing this topic back from back in the day, but I want to see someone do this. I had the idea just want to see it brought to life. I don't have the extra resources to do this, but if someone does this would be great for the others to persue this mod.

Someone try this and if it works let us know. :D

I have the same thing on my wife's Murano. I love that feature....leave the keys in my pocket, unlock/lock the doors, and start the car. GOTTA LOVE IT! I would love something like this for my G. Probably impossible but o well.

You could do a proximity key with any car if you really wanted too.

You would need to bypass the cars stock chip (like a remote start does) and you would need a RFID reader, and RFID tag.

You would have to put an RFID chip in the key (RFID tag), and then a corresponding RFID switch in the car connected to a push button start. The RFID switch would be wired in just like a kill switch. When the key was not in proximity, the starter switch would not work. If you just wanted the doors to unlock you could keep the stock key combo, but a push button is just so much cooler.

You could use relays to do anything once the key is in proximity. This includes remote starts, open the windows, unlock the car, lights on/off.

However if you went the push button route, any idiot would be able to hot wire your car, because you bypassed your stock key chip. They would just have to run a hot past the RFID switch to start her up.

They make N.O. and N.C. RFID switches already, I have held them in my hands at school.

    hmmm, great post.

i've had remote start for the longest, but wouldn't mind having a proximity key.

can you post some info, if you have any, on how much this would cost. A tutorial would be nice. :)
