    Question from the junkyard

Hey guys.. I'm kinda new at this and this is mainly for all you guys that can be of help.. anyways.. I was at the junkyard today mainly to get a car jack.. and I noticed a turboed supra.. I opened the hood and the turbo was still intact.. I believe it was a T26 turbo.. and they were offering $200 for it.. so what I am asking is.. can this be used on our cars? Pressumably on the 8G's and if so what parts should I take.. besides the turbo itself

Me knowing nothing about Supras except they have a turbo inline six and are super sexxXYy. You can use that turbo on ANY vehicle. How easy it will be to use, thats another story. You will have to get a custom made exhaust manifold with the flange for the turbo because I bet it is different then any DSM turbo flange. While your at it, may as well grab the injectors depending on the type of injectors supras use.

And lastly, I want to go to your junkyard! Was it an older Supra or newer? Theres usually a few older supras in my junkyard, but I dont think any of them are turbo.

And last lastly, $200 isnt too bad, but I dont know what turbo it is or the size. You could get a 14b turbo off a 1g Eclipse for $100-200 depending on miles and condition.

oo it was an older supra.. it looks like it's in good condition.. that is until you open the door an everything is gone..the speedo, everything.. it looks like it has been violated.. but anyways thanks for the info.. yeah there usually isn't many turbo'd cars out there...in the yard.. that is untill i saw this supra laying around.. it looks sick.. so you think $200 is a good deal?? for a T26 turbo? I thought it was somewhat high since the car is old.. i believe it's like maybe 95ish+

    CT26

Ask him how much for the whole front clip. Even if you have no use for it, you might be able to make a good deal of money off of it.

Well it depends on the miles of the car, and the condition of the turbo. Did it look new, have shaft play, etc. I mean a T26 isn't enormous, but it will haul some ass.

well.. funny thing is I can't tell how much miles are on it since the speedo is gone.. but aside from that I mean I guess it looks in good condition.. from what I saw I saw some black residue comming from the turbo.. since the hose was off.. so whether or not it's a bad sign I don't know.. again.. I'm not too familiar with turbos yet.. but i've been reading up on it.. but things like condition and what not I'm not to familiar with.. and thanks for everyone for these comments.. anyways should I tell them to pull it out for me along with the injectors just incase I won't see it there the next time I'm there?? I mean I won't be there prolly till monday or tuesday.. so by then it might be gone..

Main thing to check for is shaftplay. Its easy to check, if you look at the turbo there is two sections. The compressor housing which is usually silver, and the exhaust housing which is black or brown and sometimes rusty. To check for shaft play you will want to wiggle the shaft in the compressor housing back and forth. Shaftplay is just that, the amount of play in the shaft in both side-to-side and up/down motions. A little bit of shaftplay is normal, usually can slightly move the shaft back and forth and maybe even up/down just a hair depending on how old it is.

Now if you see oil coming out of the compressor housing inlet then thats a sign of bad seals and the turbo would need rebuilt.

Just depends on how much money you want to do in the end and how much custom work you need to do.

Im really not sure how a Supra turbo is flanged, I doubt it uses the same flange as a DSM manifold(Which bolts up to any 4g64).

If I was you, just for the fact of simplicity, Id get a DSM turbo and just use a DSM manifold.

Ok.. I went back to the place to check out the turbo.. the shaftplay seems to be in good use.. it "wiggles" a littlebit.. meaning it wiggles one way but not around alot, and it turns around smoothly.. I will post pics of the car and the engine bay soon..

Anyways I was just wondering if it would be good to use the turbo.. I mean I've been dieing an itching to turbo my G and when i saw this turbo I wanted to jump on this.. and thats when i came to you guys for some insite..
