    Exploding Battery

    :?: ok please help, what would cause my a car battery to explode while still in the car hooked up, this happened to my wife tonight, had to go get her, i saw the battery and the whole casing is actually blown apart. PLEASE HELP

    a spark, loose connection or something. a battery contains nitrogen and oxygen and yes a nice spark would blow it up nicely...

    Same thing happened to my dad's battery. A lack of ventilation under the hood and a bad battery that leaks gases and as Pinoy says, a spark anywhere in the vacinity of the gases and KABOOM! Make sure you get a good reputable battery and the terminals are on tightly and you will not have anymore exploding batteries.

    the main discharge of a battery is hydrogen gas.


    just a WEE bit flamable (i.e the hindenburg)..

    it happens. heat or a spark will do it.
