    Perfect 8g V6 Tranny Swap

Please don't confuse this with the I4. Although the procedure is similar, the V6 is a lot harder to do. I used 2001 V6 Eclipse parts. Thanks to Roman and his shop for the help in install !! And Special Thanks to Larry for doing the Quaife LSD install !!!

There are several things different that were found during this swap :

    1. 2000 and below Gs like mine - The Auto ECU does not throw a CEL light for the auto tranny wires. :

2001 and up does - Requires ECU change and Dealer reprogramming of the Immobilizer. I am swapping mine out to a 2001 Eclipse ECU very soon. The new ECUTek flash looks very promising and looks to be the best way to tune the car.

    2. 2000 and below Gs require new axles. The stock passenger side one is too long. The axle mount will not line up. 2001 and up not required. The axle can be seperated in case yours is stuck like mine. You just need the tranny side half of the axle where the mount is. Don't be ghetto and grind the axle. You need those teeth.

    3. You definitely need the Manual transmission mount (engine side). This is special order.

    4. Everything from a V6 Eclipse works - flywheel, clutch, etc. etc.

    5. You don't need a new starter. It fits fine but you DO need the tranny plate that goes in between the engine and the transmission. The starter hole is bigger on the Manual Tranny. :

    6. We initially had a problem engaging to 1st and 2nd and 4th was being thrown out of gear. This was a cable problem. Make sure its tightened and aligned properly both on the engine side and the shifter. :

    7. You need bolts that attach the the clutch to the tranny. I didn't get them from the donor car since I bought new ones. The flywheel bolts came with the fidanza flywheel.

    8. You already have the 2 required wires to go into the tranny. Speedo sensor and reverse lights. Everything else is covered up. Only four wires need to be spliced. One was shorted and the other for the reverse lights. Roman did this so I don't remember the colors. It was the easiest part of the install.

    9. The LSD makes a world of difference. You just GO!!

This thing is a beast !!!

99/2000 does not give you a check engine light but you can't tune a galant ecu using ECUFlash. So both frank and me are swaping to eclipse ecus

gotta love the 5 speed connection.

you can actually feel the power getting put down. its so nice.

frank you oughtta put in some shifter baseplate bushings, and brass under hood shift cable inserts.
makes the shifter feel nice and tight. like a bolt action rifle.

How are the revs with that aluminum flywheel?

How did you trick the ECU into thinking the car was in neutral?

Forgot to post about that. I have those busings and brass inserts

What do you mean by how are the revs? Do they rev faster you mean?

By shorting out 2 wires. Easy.

Read my original tutorial. Also if you actually want the clutch safety switch to work simply connect the switch to the 2 wires you are suppost to short out to the switch. (9+10) on the black harness(the 2 thickest wires). (7+8) are the reverse light wires.

    It better rev faster!

nah i was just saying, how is it to go from that heavy fluid filled torque converter to a 10lb flywheel!
your revs must be so smooth and quick now by comparison!!
