    **updated** 95 gsx auto swap?

I have a friend that is parting out a 95 gsx auto. Has anyone ever tried to use the awd trans w/ transfer case and 4 bolt rear end. I know the trans will bolt up cause its the same bolt pattern and front axles will work. but will the transfer case fit and the rear end bolt up. I understand I will need the gas tank for the driveshaft clearance.

    Look here:
    http://www.automotivearticles.com/AWD_Conversion.shtml

Only thing I would think that is different is that we would need a longer driveshaft. Having a parts car would help out tremendously though. I hope to try the swap this winter.

Also, with the driveshaft + exhaust I would think it would be a pretty tight fit in the tunnel. Could always run stock 2.25" exhaust and have an electric cut out on the downpipe. Would add to the sleeper look!

That just changed my mind about doing this swap at this time. Didn't know it involved that much work. I think I'm going to leave this for one of the last conversions I do and look for a manual awd cause if I'm doing all that might as well convert it to stick.

Yah, for 2g guys its pretty straight forward, but all the rear suspension off the 2g AWD should bolt up with a little cutting here and there to add bolts for the AWD tank. Only real fabrication would be with the bracket for the driveshaft and the driveshaft itself. I really want to do the swap, and of course will make a tutorial if I do

Need help from someone that has the caps program. I need to know 2g gsx front hubs and rear hubs are the same part #'s. If they are I should be able to put a 4 lug front hub in the rear. Want to stay 4 lug for the sleeper look but don't know If I would be able to fit 4 lug hubs that accept axles in the rear.

    well worst case,
you'd just have triggermauve ship you over a pair of 7g vr4 rear hub assemblies/spindles.

    oh yeha?
cause last time i ordered somethign from trigger,
    it came 3 days later...
    from japan.

i'm pretty sure there is a difference.
the rear axles from what i remember,
actually bolt to the rear spindle, and the splins are inside of the axle cup that bolt to the rear spindle
    its a 4 bolt cup on 2g gsx's

just get some eclipse steelies w/ hub caps.. or some dodge stealth or aventer rims.. any dodge/mitsu 5 lug car.. in fact im willing to bet most 5 lug jap cars are same.. u could easily keep a sleeper look and be 5 lug.. not too many people accually care or know if a galant is 4 lug or 5 lug.. thats what made me hold off 5 lug in the beginning (other than i couldnt find a wrecked one)
no one will even notice that ur 5 lug..

i thought it was 8g vr4 that had identical suspension components?

7g VR4 is just similar to the 8g VR4 which is similar to the USDM 7g, no?

    thats correct.
there were no suspension changes between the 7g and 8g vr4
although the 7g has 4 lug and the 8g has 5 lug,

but from what i've found through searching on tuners,
the 2g awd rear hub's(unlike the 1g hubs) actually have the same spline and castlenut system as the front does.
so i know for a fact the front bearing will bolt onto the rear,
but the only issue here would be if the spline count is different between the front and rear awd spindles.

cause i wouldn't all that much care to switch to 5 lug if i didnt' have to,
i've already got a great deal of cash invested in my 4 lug setup.
