    A/C Smells Like Chum...

Can anyone confirm that spraying Lysol directly into the AC-Heater intake will rid me of this fish chum smell that spews out of my A/C? In theory, the Lysol is supposed to kill the bacteria, but I want to know if its true before I have my car smell like a McDonalds bathroom (fish smell is temporary).

Thats not really gonna make a difference.... I would spray lysol in ur ac vents and on the vents outside of the car where the window wipers are at

if you do have a cabin filter and you haven't changed it, it does make a difference.

i don't care how much lysol you spray, that isn't gonna go away unless you replace the filter. especially the feces.

Where is the air filter located or is this something that you have to take to the dealer to get changed

Here we go, I noticed a post a while back regarding a bootleg cabin filter replacement (common household AC material filler) in which I completed in about 15 minutes. Then I turned on the heater and fan to the highest selection (pulling the air from inside the cabin), and then sprayed the Lysol into the interior air suction vent. The smell faded from a bucket of chum to a dead tadpole, and now it's smells as crisp as a summer's breeze (not a douche). Remember no to get the Lysol that smells like a reform school bathroom, the after effects can be mentally traumatic (memories of the short bus).

Where's the interior suction vent located (yes, I already know "interior," but where exactly)?

Also, any link to the Home Depot A/C filter mod?

Thanx for that link... now I have a better idea of what to do for sure. I pulled my old filter out last nite and it was dirty as heck and had leaves/twigs in it (probably from the previous owner).

A/C is blowing good now, but I gotta get another filter in there today, so that nothing else gets sucked up in there.

    THANX guys!!!

Thats a good tutorial Allan about the cabin filter!

I personally would go to a dealer Mitsubishi, Toyota, etc etc and go to their retail parts department. Ask for their "A/C refresher service kit". This is what most dealers use when they offer the clean the A/C system.

I use the Toyota kit...when I worked there I uses the A/C refresher kit on my Galants. Basically theres 2 cans...1 to spray on the outside vent ducts where the wipers are which kill bacteria and freshen the ducts.

The other bottle should come with a tube with a cone nozzle on the opposite end to where you put in the evaporator drain tube. This is where the water drains from the evaporator when you use your A/C. Its a foam spray that suppose to kill the bacteria and mildew buildup which can cause a funky smell.

Anyone know exactly where the evaporator drain tube is at?

I have my Toyota freshener kit and need to finally get around to gettin' things unstinky. Even after changing the filter, that mildewy smell remains...

    Thanx in advance!!!

if you have an 8g, the AC evap tube is right behind the rear motor mount. its hard to get a pic of it cuz of the location in the engine bay. its right along the firewall. it should be a 1 cm nub sticking out of the firewall right behind the motor mount.
