4 wheel drive 7 gen galant (us version)

Hey guys, I got some pretty cool info a day ago. Did you know that our galants share the same chassis as the 3000GT? That's right...thus we can use the rear axle and the driveshaft from the 3000GT as well as the tranny and the motor. What do we get? A US version of the VR-4 with the same HP and everything.

I'm not sure if this person is a member of this board, but...There's a guy who is doing this conversion right now. He allready has the engine in the car, and I believe the drivetrain is all setup. He's been working on the project for 3 years  . He want's everything to be done right. I will try to get in touch with him and get more info.

I have also found out that 3000GT VR-4 has it's engine sitting sideways just like a galant. So this is another engine swap possibility for us, as long as we find the tranny that will work (stok VR-4 is an AWD tranny).

These are my thoughts at this moment.

i would highly doubt that the 7G Galant is on the same chassis as the 3kGT VR4 seeing as the Galant and Eclipse have shared chassis' forever.

    hehe..

actually the 3kgt shares the same chassis as the eclipse which would suggest that some stuff of the 3kgt can be grafted on to the galant. stuff like the BRAKES!!!...hint hint!

Actually, I had heard the same thing quite a while ago prior to stumbling across TGC. Apparantly, since the Galant is just a bit longer than the Eclipse the driveshaft from the 3kgt is closer to fitting than that of the Eclipse. And I'm almost positive you could stick the V6 into the engine bay. I mean, the I4 has so much extra room in there, it almost looks out of place. Of course, the suspension would be quite a bit diffrent between the Galant/Eclipse and 3kgt since the 3kgt is about 500 lbs heavier, and a "sports car" But, I'd imagine things would be at least a bit similar. I guess the best way to look at it is that since the Galant sits right between the Eclipse and 3kgt it gets to enjoy the best of both worlds. I'd have to really go over the whole thing very closely but I'm sure it's possible. I guess the real questions to ask first is how diffrent is the 3kgt VR4from the tranny back from the Eclipse GSX? If the diff is the same, and a longer driveshaft is the only real diffrence than you can be sure that it would work (granted, perhaps a bit of cutting and welding would be required, but that's to be expected with such a radical mod) Also, No unibody cars literally share chassis, they're just really similar.

Also don't forget that 7th. gen VR-4 galants have a v-6 TT sitting in the engine bay, so the V-6 will fit for sure. But is the VR-4 galant motor the same as the vr-4 3000GT motor? The HP ratings are the same...

This is the answer to Craigs question: I have heard it from a friend who owns AWD Eagle Talon (12.5 1/4 mile  ). He is part of the DSM NW club. From the conversation I have had with him...he knows this guy and have seen the car in the garage. Like I said earlier, it's taking the dude 3 years to do the swap, unlike swapping 4g63, which takes a week or so. So it's not one of the easiest things to do.

actually the 7th gen vr4 is just a tiny 2 liter V6 with twin turbos. The 3000gt engine is waaaaayyyy bigger and hp figues are not the same with the 7th gen vr4 at 240hp and the 3000gt at 320hp

guys! ever heard of anyone crazy enough to do a 3000gt rotor and caliper swap into a 7th gen? why does it seem that everyone is scared of this mod?

yea the rotor and caliper swap is something some of the guys here could look at. i mean if they can get the basic swap, maybe they and use the big brake upgrades (if they weren't big enough) for the 3kgt. but im guessing people aren't jumping right into it cuz of cost. i mean first of all, the rotors and calipers are pretty big, and well, they're gonna need some rims to clear them. some people already have big rims, but then the 3kgt is 5 lug i recall and the 7g us spec is 4 lug, so chances are they're gonna need to buy new rims too. maybe some more research on the dsm pages owuld give a better idea of how to do it and its effectiveness since the eclipse and the galant barkes are really similar

    hmm..

    ah ok

but i think that the eclipse hub could fit on the knuckle of the 7g galant and thus making an instant 5 stud conversion. then the rotor of the 3kgt could be slapped on then some brackets to fit the caliper?

hahaha! sounds easy no? but im sure that there is some horror problem hiding along the way well i'll find out soon

the galant shares NOTHING With the 3000gt but for the design.

    thats it.

nothing at all is interchangable in anyway.

are you sure about that? The only way to be sure is to check some of the part numbers. I believe CyberAuto sells rear strut bar from cusco that fits galant. The part number matched the description for 3KGT.
I'm not saying that everything fits and that galant and 3KGT is the car. All I'm trying to say is that someone is doing the swap, and it's taking him 3 years to do...soooo it's not an easy bolt-on and requires time and money. But it is possible.

    hmm..

actually, agreeing with pavel, ANYTHING can be fitted into our 7g galants as long as there is time and money a good example is the honda B16 power steering oil cooler i plan to install on my 7g. Its very efficient since it has cooling fins unlike our stock ones which is just a u-shaped metal tube

with 3 years time, you could put pretty much any engine in your car. Just a matter of money.
