    It's not bad. its stupid.
Back in the days before drop spring on domestic cars it would of been alright, but not now.

Sombody correct me if im wrong but, If you cut a spring it messes up its engineering. Springs are designed to have certain spots in them that compress/ bounce back so far. If you cut them then you are taking some of this area out messing up the whole design of the spring and asking for a shitty ride. Plus im sure if you search this question would have been answered in some other thread.

As mentioned, it is a bad idea. And yea people used to do it before aftermarket support was available. They would either cut springs or heat them to bring the coils closer together. And yes it compromises the ride. You are messing with the spring rate and it will not support your vehicle as desinged to. You can do it if u just want the look, but the ride will be horrible. Save yourself some headaches and just get some Teins, Eibach, Progress or other springs.

ON OE SPRINGS, CUTTING IS A BAD THING. ON MOST AFTERMARKET SPRINGS YOU CAN GET AWAY W/ CUTTING UP TO ONE COIL BUT THIS IS STILL NOT RECOMENDED.

ALSO TYPING IN ALL CAPS IS CONSIDERED YELLING. WHY AM I YELLING? CAN YOU GUESS?

welcome to the internet and TGC.

if you dont have the kit and you want to drop it what is the best spring to drop to the ground (not all the way to the ground) like soda can?

coilover is good to use or spring?

i have coilovers from ebay and they suck. save your money if you have to and just get some progress springs or some teins. Thats what most of the memebers here use and they tend to work well.

Also the link at the top of this post that sls2000 posted is good!!

Progress drop is 1.8 in the rear and 2.2 or 2.0 in the front depending on whether you have the I4 or the V6. I’m ordering mine soon. Also coilovers are expensive and really only needed if you want to slam it to the ground or plan to tweak the system a bunch. They will also give you a much stiffer/bumpier ride.

Remember you will also need new shocks and struts. This is actually more expensive than the springs. KYB’s GR-2 or AGX are the way to go. You can get the GR-2s at ajusa.com for around 210 shipped.
