I'm in the process of getting a 14b for like $10, there is almost no shaft play at all but it doesn't spin freely it takes a little bit of effort to get the wheel to move ... my question is how big of a problem does that present and would it be worth the $10 now if it needs to be rebuilt? Thanks for all your help, Joe

Find out what a rebuild will cost you. Make some phone calls.

what do u mean by effort?? spray some wd40 and work it out first./
it takes some slight effort to move the wheel but u can spin it hard and let go and it should spin some more depending on how hard u spin it.. If u rotate the fins as hard as u can and they just stop after u let go then u may have an issue.. Could be some left over weather or oil or something in side that dried up.. 40 it first and rotate it and see if it gets looser..

I'm hoping its just an easy fix like cleaning out some old oil cuz that would make it a great find but i'm still waiting to hear back from the guy that i was getting it from.

Do not buy it unless he has a shop balance the turbo. If its not balanced properly after being rebuilt, then it will fail prematurely.

You wouldnt buy new tires and have them mounted without balancing them would you?
    7g for life!

And your tires don't even spin at 30,000 rpm. At least, mine don't.

    and to think,
most turbos spin upwards of 80-100k rpms

for the price of a rebuild on a 14b, its just not worth it.
you could get a brand spanking new big 16g, brand spanking new i tell you.
for 420 bucks at forced performance.
a rebuild on a 14b is going to cost at least 300+
its jsut not worth it unless you are nickel and diming.

but hopefully yoru turbo just needs a lube.
i woudn't spray wd40 nin there because its a degrease and its bad for turbo bearings.
just pour a littel 10w30 in oil feed and see if it changes anything.
    but still,
the turbo's from both my jdm motors didn't spin fthe best when i first got them, mainly cause they had been sitting in a junkyard for god knows how long.
but once i got everythign fired up and driven.
even when everythign got cold the turbo woudl spin like it was nobodies business
