My 02 is the newest car that I ve ever owned. I ve always been told that if the boot needs replacing then so does the axle but then again I ve always had an older vehicle. My last car was an 86 323 8) .

if you grab the axles, you wont have to replace the boot. Its part of the axle 8)

If the boot is just worn or just recently ripped, no need to replace the axle. As long as theres some grease left in the boot then the bearings should be fine. Just repack it with grease(usually comes with the boot repair kit) and install the new boot. Boot kit = ~$20, new axle ~$50-90. You shouldne have t otake the axle out to replace the boot, just would be tight to replace the inner boot near the trans, easiest just to remove the axle I spose.

Just get some axle grease... usually green... and shove some in there... be careful when you're taking it apart though... cause when i replaced the boot on my intrigue the bearing fell apart and I had to put all the little peices back together... it's a mess too.. so wear some shitty clothes...
