Why do you have to use a 4g64 cam gears and not a 4g63 cam gear on a 4g64 headswap?

I always thought they were the same except for the timing marks.
    7g for life!

the timing marks are different, you can use the 4g63 cam gears but you would have to remark the timing mark so it would be accurate for the 4g64. i don't know the exact specs off the top of my head, but if you search around on here you should find it.

    dude whats the holdup?
    you've been at this forever

the 4g63 cam gears are IDENTICLE to the 4g64 dohccam gears.
except the timing marks are different
    and at that.....................
no picture will allow you to see the difference

so either REMARK your 4g63 cam gears.
buy some 4g64 cam gears from slowboy
or just get soem adjustable cam gears and fix the timing that way.

Yes but that's why i'm asking, cause i got this pic from slowboy, and i went to check my 4g63 camgears, you can see the hole where the pin goes (on the pic) in on the camgear,i count it to the marks, and they are the same amount on of the ones of the 4g64.
Now my conclusion is that the marks of the 4g63 an 4g64 gears are the same.
But everywhere they say that the marks are different.
    I'm getting confused.

    take my word for it.
    they are different.

the cam gears are exactly the same.
you can run 4g63 cam gears if you want.
    seriosuly do hatever.
    jeez.
    all i am saying.
or any of us are saying .
is that the ACTAUL timing marks are different
the tooth count is the same
the dowel pin size is the same.
but the tdc marks are off like 1 tooth on the 4g64 cam gears.

this will be important down the road cause you will be able to set yoru timign perfectly.
whereas if you used the 63 cam gears,
you might line all the marks up liek you are supposed to, but the cams will actually be off from where they are supposed to be.

this is because the deck on the 4g64 is like what? 8mm taller, this changed things.

    now lets think about this...
if i took the head off my 4g63(or any motor for that matter)
and had the head milled flat.. and they took som material off to do hat.
then when i put my head back ont he same block, the timing marks will still line up, but they won't be exact because all the proportions have changed in the belt system.

    i'm serious dude.
if you start liek 3 or 4 more threads about these cam gears i'll just buy you a set.
    cause its gettign annoying.
