It's time to change my timing belt

OK so im almost at 75K. I need to change it real soon. I tried searching what all the necessary parts needed to change the timing. So far i know i need:

    Water Pump &gasket
    Timing Belt
There is another belt where i dont know the name maybe a balance belt

What else to i need to change the timing?

yea, change the balance shaft belt.

i'd change the acessory belts while you're there too since they'll have to come out.

and the tensioners for the timing belt.

The tensioner isnt cheap but if it fails, the amount of money you'll spent on the tensioner is far less than the repair to the engine.

there is no tensioner belt, there's the timing belt, the balance shaft belt and then the acessory belts which turn things such as your ac and your alternator.

as for the tensioners. well i've leave you with this. my tensioner failed at around 80k. which isn't bad except for the fact that it did snap my timing belt which i just changed 20k before.

if you go to the dealership with your vin, they should be able to get you the correct parts you need.

well when i bought the parts for my sister 99 G all the parts came out to $330 at the dealership. Thats with the waterpump, timiing belt, the tensioner and the balance shaft belt. I noticed if i were to buy those parts for my 02' G on mitsubishiparts.com it comes out to be much cheaper!

they're a mitsubishi dealership. they have a computer in the parts room. shoot them an email and tell them what u need and include your vin. thats the best way to make sure that you're getting the parts that fit your particular car.

so everyone here seems to be of the opinion that it's best to get the timing belt done at the dealer (or own mechanic). is it really that difficult of a task, or just a pain in the neck? i'm a novice so not really thinking about doing this to my galant, but i wouldn't mind giving it a shot on one of my other cars to get the practice.

Well to be honest with you, im sure i can probably do it but i really dont want to hassle with it! Here is the tutorial on how to change you timing belt:

IF you think you can do it go ahead. TO me the only hard part seems to be taking the crank pulley off.

but keep note that, there are many non mitsu mechanics that do the job and get it wrong. and by making a mistake, can be a costly mistake.

Most reputable performance shop does regular maintenances and cost about half than what you would pay for it done at the dealer.

I was lucky i live close to an evo performance shop.
