    transmision...

hey what do u guys mean when you say bullet proof the transmisson??
    uhhhh...... Whats a 9g???

make it really strong. Basically your car is only as good as it's weakest link.

For the automatic galants, it's the transmissions. If you bullet proof it, then u take it out of the picture and you can beef up the engine to your liking.

Level10 is a company that re-builds them strong.

 $3000 for a transmission. better really be bulletproof! now that i read on, these are built to order, and if thats the case, you shouldnt have to worry about whather its going to be the right fit or not.

Well, the $3000 is for a complete rebuilt transmission which I think includes the torque converter. You can buy just the rebuild kit, and have a local shop do the rebuild locally for about $2000 total (it's really expensive to have a transmission rebuilt) Or you can do what I'm doing and just swap over to a 5 speed.

swapping to 5-speed depends, mine cost $400, did the work myself and got the tranny from the junkyard off an eclipse turbo

labor, alot of people dont know how to do it, or where to get the parts, so they go to shops and they charge an arm and a leg

depends, new tranny, used tranny, new clutch, used clutch, used pedals, new pedals, etc, all of that would change a price from hundreds to thousands

forget about labor. i mean you can't do jack shit if you know how to do something but don't have the tools to do it. and yea thats y labor rates are kinda high. the mechnics gotta make money, pay for the facility that they are using and pay off the tools that they use to do the swap.

Webhosting for less than $3 a month? put "pinoyesv6" as a promo code.

It's also a pain in the butt. If you don't have a shop to work in, you can just about forget about it. FWD transmissions are the bane of my existance. Also, there's quite a bit of fabrication of parts. Lots of little stuff, you have to tear the dash apart to run the shifter cables and install the new brake/clutch pedal assembly. It's just not a lot of fun. About a full weekend of work, plus the cost is up there especially if you do it "right". Though, if you do it cheap and just salvage stuff out of a junkyard you could probably squeek by for around $800 Doing it the "right" way....well, I'm looking at right at $2000. But I'm totally rebuilding the tranny with all new shift forks and synchros, synthetic gear lube, ACT PP, shaved flywheel, short throw shifter and all new clutch hydraulics. I'm also contemplating a Limited slip while I'm doing everything which is another couple hundred. And, that's me doing all the work. Expense is definitely a limiting factor. Also, not everyone wants a 5 speed. I had to think long and hard about it. I'm gonna miss my automatic when I'm making all those runs to Atlanta.

dude imm poor enough already there is absolutely no other way for an automatic

The $3000 does not cover the tq.
I ended up having the guy at level10 but me a new tranny, upgrade it, and the tq, then with shipping and having a local shop install it, I spent right around $5K!! I am going to get the shifting computer they have too, thats an extra $1K.

But it is very nice, they are supposed to handle up to around 600HP (not that I'll ever have 600HP in my Galant - maybe 400, maybe someday)

I've heard some bad things about level ten. A guy a met up at the drag strip had his V6 cougar tranny rebuilt by them, and he had nothing buy complaints. IMO i wouldn't spend 3 grand on rebuilding a tranny, i would just put a 5 speed in. But then again, you could always use your bulletproof tranny as a shield if you get attacked driving down the road!!! :mg: LOL!!!!
