    guage and dash lights

i want to change all my interior lighting to red.

    dome lights: done
194 bulbs in guage cluster: done
all others: cant find red bulbs or red bulb covers for all the small bulbs, including guage cluster, climate controls, buttons and switches.

any ideas on how i could do this? i tried to paint a few bulbs with different red paints, but there either too dim, melt, crack, burn, etc... no luck. tried engine paint, wood stove and bbq grill paint, enamel, and one other. where can i get bulb paint? dont want to use traditional leds cause they are very directional and wont completely and evenly light up the guages. i'm probly gonna use leds for the switches, pre-dimmed by a resistor. any ideas?

replace em all with LEDs. They are brighter and you wont have to change em ever again

ok so what kind of leds? how should i mount the leds? i've seen the wide view leds that are made into a 194 base, but the're too big for the holes for the little bulbs. i tried the leds in the cluster of a different car before, but it didnt light evenly. i had lit spots every few inches or so. didnt look good at all. has anyone done this and had good even lighting? if so how did you do it? i dont want it to be mickey moused and held together with duck tape.

Nah, they have em exact size and all. Look on Sylvania's website for bulb sizes by car. It will have a list of all bulb numbers (sizes)

ok so the leds fit the 74's. do i solder the leds to the sockets with a 220 ohm resistor? i'll take a trip to radioshaft and find some wide angle red leds and a pack of 220ohm resistors and hope for even lighting i guess, this didnt work before, why should it work now, anyone got pics of this done on their ride? and how they did it?

    where is the Flash Resistor?

I've switched out all my bulbs w/ LED's and have the quick flash signals, etc. I read somewhere that instead of using a load resistor, you can replace the actual Thermal Flasher and it will solve the whole problem. My question is, where the HELL is the Flash Resistor located in the car? I looked under the hood, interior fuse box, under the dash - and I don't really even know what it looks like. Here's a link to what I want to replace it w/, but which one - two pin or three?

it's been awile, cus i've not been on the computer, but i installed the leds and was not impressed. thay did not have even lighting, so i used them on my rear side markers, and sold some to a friend. there are a bunch of dif kinds on that site, maybe i got the wrong ones. they need to have a wide angle view. i did my hvac panel too, and it worked out ok. i'll post pics tonite. all i have left to do is the buttons and switches. I opened up my recycle air switch, it has these little tiny incandesant bulbs. how do i get leds for them. in other words, what kind or size led?

What I think the problem is is you got the ones that have 1"dome for light on the bulb. There are some on that site that have multiples on one little thing that are supposed to be brighter.

So the 194's look like this:

Instead of the ones you got:

As you can see there are at least 4 domes for light rather than one. Dont know if this helps but...there ya go!

    more pics here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2529184/3

this is the 194 bulb i got

    the 24's came from: http://autolumination.com/74.htm
These are good. scroll down to the superstar $4.99

    and 194's came from http://autolumination.com/194.htm
didnt like these: Oval Wide Angle Lense $2.49

    the 74's came from:
    http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b....11793&next=50
scroll to 74 Wedge Base LED bulb $1.19

these were what i ordered. i didn't like the 194's. The "super star" ones are pretty good though. i just ordered the superstar 194's. they should be better.
