    what is this?

    I was just tidying up under the hood a little and discovered this. where the hell is this supposed to be bolted down to? and what is it? Probably from when I got the engine swap... but still just hanging down like that doesnt seem right to me. Car runs fine though. But still...

    Looks like a map sensor? It has to go on the intake mani somewhere, feel under that top runner for holes. If its not connected, Im sure you could here a leak on the intake somewhere while the car is idling.

    thats the thing it doesnt even reach that far. cuz if you look at the pics, theres a sensor thing already bolted down to the mani. And it doesnt have any type of sensor on the back of it. just a flat covered surface.

    It is your ignition failure sensor. But it looks like your missing the bracket on your intake manifold that is attaches to.

    does the bracket matter?

    I'm not sure, but I would guess no. I found this in the manual to test it. Check the service manual for ignition failure sensor. I think it is in section 16 under electrical.

    IGNITION FAILURE SENSOR CHECK
    <2.4L ENGINE>
    NOTE: An analog-type ohmmeter should be used.
    Check that the resistance between terminals 3 and 4 is at the
    standard value.
    Standard value: 0.1 Ω or less

    It is not the MAP sensor. The MAP sensor is already attached to the manifold as seen in the picture he provided. Also if you look closely on the sensor that is not attached you see IFS in the sensor itself, hence IFS=Ignition Failure Sensor.
