    stupid amp

My Alpine V12 is shutting down after it's been on for a while. And then it comes back on intermittingly at times. Any ideas?

is it in an area that has no ventilation, making it get hot quickly?

yeah, that bitch was real hot when I got home just now...I was just looking into wiring a fan on top of it some how...

unless the fan in on the inside of the covering it wont do much .. try to put some washers inbetween the amp and mounting surface and get longer screws so air can pass undeneeth the amp

I like that idea, I'm going to try that. The guy at the Dr. Dashboard here said that I'm working the amp too hard, because I have two speakers bridged to one channel. But I've done it before with no problem. I'm going to re-wire it and see what happens...

i doubt thats the problem, amps are made to be bridged without problems, i think its going into protect mode because of heat

They are made to be bridged, however if the total resistance of the subs is below what the amp can handle when bridged you will have problems like thermal shutdown or possible damage to the amp. Most 2 channel amps are only stable at 4 ohms when bridged mono.

yeh i kinda made that last comment in anticipation that he was abiding by the ohm load rules, i dont think it would cut off then back on if he wasnt, it'd just go POOF.

Here's the specs on the amp...

    RMS Power (at 12V, 20-20kHz)
    Per Channel into 4ohms .... 50W x 2 (0.08% THD)
    Per Channel into 2ohms .... 100W x2 (0.3% THD)
    Bridged 1 Channel into 4ohms ....200W x 1 (0.3% THD)

    Dynamic Power (at 14.4V, 20-20kHz)
    Per Channel into 4ohms ....75W x 2 rms (0.08% THD)
    Per Channel into 2ohms ....150W x 2 rms (0.3% THD)
    Bridged 1 Channel into 4ohms ....300W x 1 rms (0.3% THD)

What kind of speakers would I need to get so that I can can bridge the 2 12's into one channel?
I currently have 2 RF punch2's I can't find any specs on them though...

u wanna get two dual 4ohm subs and wire like this

I really liked the sound of the way I had it wired bridged like that. My trunk lid looked like it was going to jump off the car it was hitting so hard. It was actually bowing the sheetmetal of the trunk out And it worked fine for a little while, but after about 30 minutes of listening time, that's when it started to act up. :( But my RF's are only single voice coils, not duals like shown above...

move the amp to a better area, try turning the settings down also for the time being, see if that helps at all

i think you might be straining the amp to try and push them subs. it's finally just taken it's toll on the amp. try adding the washers and moving it to a place with alot of air flow.

that's nothing .. try blowing all the welds on the skeletal part of the trunk lid Like said before the amp might be struggling to push those subs...
