No you don't have to get pistons just to go turbo. You can run the stock galant internals but you will be limited to 10 psi. You have same strength everything except pistons.

The 4g64 does not have the same internals as a 4g63.
    7g for life!

true enough the 4g63 has a different bore and stroke......than the 4g64
8g tranny is being rebuilt and waiting on ground control coilovers
7g is just sitting motor and tranny is out(need to finish, just lazy)
6g (vr4) motor is out getting the good stuff like a gt4088 and some more stupid stuff.
    Nice to be back!!!!

The pistons and crankshaft are different, but I believe the 64 uses the same rods as the 2G.

    you are correct.

but the crank is of the same qulity and strength as the 4g63 crank.
    good for 600 hp.

what will be the best piston to get to put in the 64 and also will you still have to change the rods

I've had my eye on some wiseco's because they make pistons for the 4g64 with a 4g63 DOHC swap. You wouldn't have to change the rods but if you were already cracking open the block to do pistons I don't know why you wouldnt get the rods out of the way at the same time.

Tearstone sells some CP Pistons for the 4G64 in a 8.8:1 compression ratio: http://tearstone.com/shop/component/...art/Itemid,35/

I installed the 6G72 version of these pistons in my block and I'm very pleased. Just don't do your install like I did (basically a piston "swap" with a quick cylinder deglaze/hone) unless you have very low mileage.

edit: And by the way, if you're seriously considering building your engine for power, take the block to a machine shop so they can install the pistons and rods and then balance the rotating assembly.

what i plan on doing is building the GS block with stronger pistons and rods and then turboying the engine.

I was looking at wiseco with eagle rods in which they make as stocker kits for the 4g63 as 2.3L

If you ordered a stroker kit for the 4g63 you would have to order the pistons in .060" over because the bore on the 63 is 85mm and the bore on the 64 is 86.5mm plus you would be spending extra money on a 64 crank which you already have anyway. So in my opinion you would be better off just getting the pistons and rods together as a package deal which slowboy does offer as well.

How much hp does the slowboy kits hold, i am looking for something that can hold around 500 crank hp in which i hope to make somewhere around 300-350hp at the crank with the mods. I just want something that can last.

You can turbo a stock 4G64...a couple of TGC'ers including me have done it successfully. 4g64 rods are the same as 2g 4G63's...but the crank is obvisously different and pistons and some other things. 4G64 pistons have a bigger diameter compared to 4G63's.

Pretty much all the 4G crankshafts are massively strong...so concerns about the crank handling power is not a issue.

What ill the car be running for hp? And any one in the Wisconsin area want to help because i have never turbo'd a car but i no that i can do it! i just have to make a custom plate so that the turbo bolts onto that exhaust manifold! haha good thing that i am going to school for tool and die and i can weld!

wiseco pistons and eagle rods on your 4g64 wodl be good for 500-600 hp, with a big turbo and a hungry valvetrain.

but you coudl daily drive it around 450hp and be happy with a nice streetable turbo.

So the 4g63 2.3L Stroker kit will work on a 4g64 block

You don't need the full kit, you just need the pistons and rods. The rods are the same as the 4g63 and the pistons have to have a bore of 86.5mm which is stock for the 4g64.

thanks bro, plan on getting this and building my 64 block with a 63t head.

I plan on spending around $1500-$2000 to built this engine up
