They were sold in the US, but not the 4G63 turbo powered one. They are called a Plymouth Sapporo or Dodge Challenger (77-83ish). They had either 1.6L 4G32 engine or 4G54 2.6L engine. Although I guess they would probably be very rare over there too.

Yeah the 4G54 2555cc was once the biggest petrol japanese four cylinder but then Toyota bought out the RZ series petrol in the mid 90s and that displaced 2.7L.

The 4G54 was used in the Starion/Conquest too in turbo form, although it produced no more power than the 4G63 2L it replaced. I don't particularly rate the 4G54 engine high in the good engine list.

I still have them - am selling the '94 auto once the engine is back together and running, and I am selling my TE71 Corolla too. Going from four cars down to two haha. I haven't had less than three cars for the last three years now haha. And pretty much as soon as I had my licence I've had a minimum of two cars.

I'd rather have the knowledge and ability to do it than the money to buy it already done.

They became more popular and needed to be more pratical to compete and hole market share.
