My THIRD Generation Galant Turbo Coupe

    Hey guys,

Well a couple weeks ago I came across this beasty for sale so I had to get it. It's a 1980 Mitsubishi Eterna GSR Turbo, which is a jap import A164A model. It's commonly badged as a Sapporo or a Galant Lambda in most markets.

This car was the first model to get the 4G63 engine, along with the rest of the Starion's running gear such as close-ratio 5 speed gearbox, independant rear suspension, four wheel ventilated disc brakes etc. It has other cool features such as all electric pillarless windows, electric fender mounted mirrors and an alarm clock (as useless as that is).

What makes this thing even more special is that there has only been one previous owner before me - a couple in their 60s who found it too 'low' to get in and out of. It's only done 128,000kms (80,000 miles) and has been garaged most of its life and it shows.

    Anyway here are some pics:

My plans are to get it running a bit faster with a E39A VR-4 TD05 turbo and intercooler, BOV and up the boost a bit - then I will sort out the suspension with some stiffer lowering springs and some new shocks and find a set of period wheels which suit the 80s era.

Lemme know what you guys think

Awesome find, mate. That car is in great shape and it's a classic. Put it on the dyno and get a baseline for us all to drool over. You kiwis get all the fun! :D

    needs a good detail,
handwash, claybar, polish, wax, metal polish for the wheels,

paint the radiator fan shroud, get some foaming tire spray and spray down the engine bay.
steam clean the interior, take that bumper sticker off the front,

man i'm seeing this car looking sweet!

any pics of the dash and instrumentation?

Those pics were taken shortly after I picked it up. I've since washed it and gave the paint a cut and polish. There are a few areas which have been touched up before which didn't come up so well after the cut and polish. Bumper sticker is gone (I gotta wonder why it said 'TURBO' backwards). I've also taken the chrome surround off he number plates too.

The wheels have been spray painted silver it seems, so a metal polish wont do any good for them. I've degreased most the engine bay will be taking off the radiator fan and shroud and fitting an aftermarket electric fan just to get a bit more room in the engine bay.

    Here's inside:

Yup it is. The Starion chassis is based on this car, just a little bit shorter. Starion also has the same suspension, brakes, diff, gearbox etc

So I guess it's RWD right since it has the similar Starion chassis. I like it, I've never seen a 2-door Galant here in USA, they are rare if anything. Love it dude, can't wait to see the improvements on it.
