I'm wanting to improve my mpg!! HELP!

i don't know what maintenance has been done to my car previously due to no records so i'm starting with this:

i'm gonna replace my oil with mobil 1 high mileage 10w-30 (i only have 130k miles i don't know if this is good choice)
i'm gonna replace my starter, since it's choking at the beginning of the day but after aawhile it get better then the next day it chokes in the morning again..
i'm gonna replace my air filter, maybe with a cold air intake if it's possible.. what do you guys think?

    maybe

i know i must be forgeting alot more, but i'm not gonna worry about alignment of wheels/shocks or whatever since i'll be getting a drop with rims in a couple days..

first thing you should do is stop driving the car like its an F1 racer. quit the WOT at every light. accelerate like a grandma. youd be amazed at the miles per tank you'll get :)

If you post stupid and incorrect information, you will get red nuggets.

mpg is mostly in your driving style. like he said above. smooth acceleration and braking will get you good mpg.

-Change your oil as required and recommend
-Change your spark plugs if needed
-Have a clean air filter in the air box
-Fuel injector cleaning service (cleans fuel injectors and fuel system)
-Induction cleaning service (cleans throttle body and intake manifold from carbon buildup)
    -Have transmission serviced as required
    -Have tires properly inflated
-Subtle driving habits (Continuous hard accelerations from dead stops, heavy on the throttle majority of the time)

You dont need great maintenance on your car to get good MPG. MissMav drove our G, which had an oil leak, and a bad radiator, a bad alternator, and a bunch of other stuff, and she got 28 on the freeway, and 24 on the streets. Even when she fixed all the problems, it didnt improve that much, however, she granny drove the car. Goes to show that no matter what you fix on the car, you will get approximatly the same fuel efficiency based on how you drive the car. The only time that driving wont be a reason, is if something is very wrong with the engine, or the transmission. But besides that, no matter what you do to the car, you will get approximatly the same MPG depending on how you drive.

    wash the car.
take out any dead weight that you don't need. like all the junk and trash in the back seat.

Webhosting for less than $3 a month? put "pinoyesv6" as a promo code.

u might want to change the timing belt and water pump if you don't know that they have allready been changed... if your timing belt slips or breaks, your car will be a great big paper weight.

    1) Keep the oil changed frequently
    2) keep tires maintained
    3) Keep the air filter clean
    4) dont drive hard
    5) use the cruse control as much as you can

Agreed. Keep the rpms low and drive smoothly. You'll be amazed at the mileage improvement.

On a sidenote, I wish the tranny has more gears. The Jetta I rented while my car was in the shop had 6 forward gears and cruises at 2000rpm at 75mph. Damn.
