    EVO SWAP UPDATE: 3

Well after a lot of research and talking it over with my mechanic, it looks like I'm going to do just the head swap on my 8G. I have some pictures posted in the members ride section. I'll probably start the swap this weekend if everything goes as planned. Here are some pictures of the head before on the old evo block before I swap it over. Wish me luck. :P

well, an evo isnt always in boost either. so this will be like an evo driving around without boosting. good for gas mileage :D

Thats exactly what I said, but the guy seems to think i'l be fine. I really do want to turbo the vehicle a little later, but we'll see.

Any reason why your not using the evo block that came with the head. If you plan on boosting later the stock Evo block is already built for boost. Seems to me you would have been better off just swapping motors since you already had a complete engine and then get a turbo off evom. Just my 2cents though. Good luck.

eh.. I think you should just use the 4G63T. IMO it'll be more of a pain to do the headswap than the engine swap.

The only thing stopping me from doing the whole engine swap right now is the lack of engine harness. Everyone I try to get one from always flakes out. :x i would love to be part of the select, the few, the proud.....to evo swap. <----stupid humor.

Those are not the stock injector either, you might want to switch those out for yours and you definatly should wait and swap out the whole engine. Evo internals are alot better then the galant ones. So unless you going to rebuild the 2.4 i'd switch everything out

Thanks for all this info. I emailed the guys at boomslang.us and they are going to see what they can do for me. And that eclipse ecu reflash with the evo is sweet. You guys are a wealth of info and an extended family.

Yup. All you need to do to make the complete EVO motor work is to convert your stock 8g harness to plug in to the 3g ECU pinout, evo injector harness connectors and the injector resistor box. Much much better to swap the whole thing over.

I just received my Evo 8 ECU today. Took one picture, its nothing fancy, its just an ecu. But the swap is coming along great as we speak. My mechanic/electrical engineer buddy is working on the ecu and galant wire harness as we speak. I'm still trying to find a 5 speed trans and a turbo for the swap. Other than that i'll keep you posted on the progress.

OK, just an update. But here are the parts I have now:

    Engine assy
    turbo
    transmission
    ecu
    factory air box
shifter assy and pedal<---being shipped as I write this
Clutch and Flywheel<---also being shipped as I write this
Jumper harness from 8g galant loom to 03 evo 8 ecu

Hopefully here in the next couple of week he'll start mocking everything up for final install. I'll upload pictures later.
