Engine oil pressure warning going off

in the summer months, when i ran my car hard, the light with an oil can and a drop would turn on. When this light goes off and the car is idling, if i don't keep the rpms over 1000, the car can turn off on me, now that's not right because i drive and automatic. what could it be. :?

2 things.. either your oil pressure is low (which is doubtful unless you have a low oil level.. have you checked lately?), or your oil pressure switch is failing (which is more likely).
