    side to side/shaft play etc...

    i plan on going to the junkyard soon to look for a 2g eclipse and see if i can part out the turbo for my 7G..i need to no how to look for if its a bad or good turbo...if it has side to side/shaft play etc...thanks need some input

    SLIGHT side to side is normal for a used turbo. In/out play is bad.
    7g for life!

    ok i kinda figured that but what are the things i should be looking at to see if its a good or bad turbo

    also look for cracks in the housings

    Cracks in the exhaust housing, specially the where the wastegate is. Look at the compressor wheel, make sure none of the fins are bent and such.
    7g for life!

    A dial indicator is a rather cheap but useful tool. It is positioned on the end of one side of the shaft, while movement is applied to the other end of the shaft. The dial will tell you the amount of end-play is present. The turbo manufacturer should be sought for the exact amount of "allowable" end-play.
