E01 code -Factory CD

From a 2G ecplise, I'm getting an E01 code (cannot read disk) out of the CD player when I want to play CDs.

I figured out today I can open it up and do some repairs if necessary, can anyone think of possibly remedies for this problem. Not "take it to a repair shop," but, "try taking apart and cleaning this" kind of replies.

I gently cleaned the eye, but to no avail. I'd really like to be able to play CDs, especially now that my tape player with tape adaptor is broken. Any help is greatly appreciated!

it's a factory radio? is the cd you are trying to use a homemade cd? have you tried other cds?
