time to replace ur cat
i just finished doing my fuel system (550cc low impedence injectors, resistor box, walbro 255, aeromotive fpr, bored fuel rail.) but when i start it, it runs alright, no leaks, turbo spools quiker for some reason and is noticably faster. only problem is that it idles at about 1500 rpms and the exhaust smell like rotten eggs. bear in mind i dont have a maf sensor installed right now so i assume its running very lean, or very rich im not sure. i just ordered a maf translator gen2 and i already installed the gm maf in the plumbing. im hoping the translator will correct the problem seing as though the ecu is probably messed up from running bigger injectors.

time to replace ur cat
How can you not run without any kind of MAF? And the smell is a clogged or bad cat, just get a test pipe or high flow cat and be done.

well thats imposible since i dont have a cat lol. i have a 3" turboback exhaust and the smell just started when i redid my fuel system. and seth, the car has ran without a maf for about 4 months now (not on the road, its garaged) it seems to run fine just idles high and theres no way to control a/f. but anyway my exhaust has no cats and only 1 muffler. no resonators or anythin else like that. its 3"stainless tubing from the turbo to the muffler.

Well who knows what is happenning since you arent running a MAF.

well ill find out next week when my translator comes in, then ill let you know if i can correct the problem. the cars also going in to a inport specialist next weekend to be tuned and fixed up. i have a little extra money so i told him to tune it perfectly and replace shit thats worn out. it needs new rotors and the passenger side ball joint is shot so i think im gonna redo my suspension while im at it...

any gains from running no mas are only percieved gains.
i garuntee you woudl dyno less power. its a wonder that your car doesn't fall on its face from the shitty tables you are running due to no....
air temp sensor
barometric pressure sensor
mass air sensor
your car has no idea how much fuel to add and how much timing to advance/pull.
you ARE without a doubt running the worst timing map yoru car can come up with.
and your a/f will be lingering somewhere around 9.5:1
are you SURE you don't have a cat? cause you will never get sulfer fumes out of any car that doesn't have a cat.

I can back you up on that one. My MAS got water in it when i drove into a flooded road. Running without it was a lot less power than having it again. No comparisonOriginally Posted by DOHCstunr
smell could be from a bad headgasket or warped head etc. my friends crx has no cats but smelled horrible. no noticable smoke from the tail pipe but when he drained the coolant out it looked like milk. turned out his head was warped.
Egg smells are usually due to your cat, but since you running with no MAS like everyone else said, your tune is fuxed. Im suprised you run at all without no fuel management.
Not how fast your car goes but how good u drive going fast.

im only running no maf because im upgrading to gm translator. i cant use the stock mitsu one right now cause its brocken its not like im doing it on purpose so dont say it like im trying to gain anything by it. and yes im sure i have no cat because like i said i removed everything and did a custom exhaust myself. and i do still have both o2 sensors connected btw. i know the rear one is for the cat but i left it in anyway

Yah Im surprised it runs at all. I gaurantee you will be very pleased once you get the GM Maf and translator installed. I wouldnt worry about the smell untill you get the GM Maf installed and everything tuned.
Can never hurt to do a compression test though.

way ahead of ya, checked it last week, all checked out ok. my brother is a mechanic, we went all threw it and everything seems ok. the smell is just an annoyance. translator is coming in on thursday, cant wait.

lordy, last time i asked about a sulfur/rotten egg smell all i got was "that's not your cat, that wouldn't do that", then i got "you just bought some high sulfer fuel", then i asked again and it was "oh, it's definately your cat, nothing else", then i get "your cat is fine, when it goes, it doesn't smell".
So it's either...
A) your cat (if you had one) or...
B) you bought some crappy gas with high sulfer content that you can somehow still smell, maybe due to an exhaust leak somewhere?
My problem is this, it only smells when I heat the heck out of it, IE... triple digits on the highway for a period of time, or, stoplight racer (not literally, but when I'm in a hurry, my car gets flogged quite a bit).
actually for some reason it doesnt smell anymore. and theres no exhaust leaks anywhere im sure of that.

sometimes, i pick up on other cars smelling crappily and think it's mine, lol, that may have been the case as well... :smt102
lol nope not the case hear. although my friends civic smells pretty bad lol

As I understand it, running w/o a cat only gains like .25-5 extra hp/torque. Can't they take your car away in some places for running w/o one? Saw a big long article about it once w/ dyno runs and everything.
Rotten eggs eh? Well do you have a fart can muffler?
Problem solved.
do cheap knock-off mufflers filler (fiber stuff, i have no idea what it's called) burn up and smell like that any more or any sooner than a name brand OEM muffler?
