    DSLR photography

I know we have a perpetual picture thread, but this is more for discussion, not pics. I picked up a Digital Rebel XT with kit lens a few weeks ago, just wondering what cameras/lens/flash everyone else has. Im going to pick up the nifty 50mm 1.8 II lens next week for a cheap portrait lens, and maybe a flash.

Post up what equipment you guys use and what lens you like the best :)

Haha, I think I'm going to learn a few stuff from this thread.

    Equipment: Sony DSC-H2 5mp

Accessories: Tripod, filters (UV, PL, FDL)

Want to buy: Lenses (3x telephoto, fisheye, wide angle)

Comments: Not a true pro camera like Seth's, but a good start for those wanting to learn photography. I'm still currently experimenting with the lens and all manual settings. I chose this camera instead of the Canon S2 back then because I'm a sucker for all things that are Sony. LOL.

My interest in photography isn't as high as my interest in my g. So all the money goes to the g first!

The 50mm is awesome and for the price you cant really complain. I paid $55 from Adorama. This should be in every canon owners camera bag. I have'nt really played around alot with the 430 ex but its a nice flash, and I get great results almost everytime.

I'm currently reading up on flash photography, so I'm thinking about buying a 580Ex to trigger the 430ex or just buy an alien bee begginer strobe setup.

Can you guys suggest a good site where you can learn a bunch of photography insights, tutorials, samples?

I've seen a couple of sites, but not all are very informative.

I'll be picking up a Cannon EOS 5D when I go to China next month. I will be using it for aviation photography.

I think my next two lenses will be the Canon 50mm f/1.8 EFII for $89 and a Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG for $219. From what I have read and all of the pictures I have seen from both of these lenses, they are aweoms for the price!

Check out this pick from the Sigma 70-300mm @ 234mm in macro mode:

(I did not take this picture)

I have yet to find an insect that will cooperate enough with me to take a macro shot haha.

the xt and xti both have the autofocus sensor built into the body of the camera right?
i almost bought a d40 but it doesnt have that feature in the body you have to buy specific lenses

Yes they have an autofocus feature but there are some lenses that are manual focus only. But the majority of lenses have an autofocus. The stock kit lens does.

I just bought an XTi body only and canon 10-20mm lens. That lens cost more than the camera. :(
