    Recommended tire size.

What is the recommended tire size for 18's? A friend gave me some rims but they have different size tires 2 of them have 225/45 and the other two have 235/40 and 245/40. The 225/45's are in good condition but the other 2 have to be tossed. Can I go 225/45 all around or do I need to replace all with a different size. Please be gentle with your suggestions since in a 2 month period have had to replace the shocks, struts, alternator, window regulator, interior carpet, motor mounts and still need to do the trans mount, figure out why there is oil around the spark plugs and find out what’s up with the check engine light, pay the mortgage, braces, personal loan, school, loan, IRS...WHAT THE FAHNUCK.....it just never ends! SORRY JUST NEED TO VENT.
Thanks in advance for any help.

You can do 225/45-18s Lonestar had them on his wheels, but they are quite large for our cars.

I'm looking for info regarding 235/40's --- those links above are broken.

    ---
Found what I was looking for. Minimum wheel width for 235/40 is 8".

Assuming you are dropped 225/40/18's will fit best.

I have 225/40's. I wanted to move up to 235/40's once I put my 18x8 Racing Harts back on. I also switched my springs from a 2" drop to a 1.2" drop and I wanted a tire that not only was wider, but a little bit taller that 225/40.

if you pick the right offset and width wheel, you won't have clearance issues and won't have to roll fenders even on a deep drop, but the offset and width will be crucial. too wide wheel and you will have to roll fenders, too low offset and you will have to roll fenders.

Im looking at 17x8 Rota Boost. Offset comes in 35, 45, and 48. Which offset is best? I plan on running GR2's and Eibach's so they drop wont be big at all.

The higher the offset the best, so go with 48.

My Racing Harts are 18x8 +45 and when I had 225/40's, I didn't needed to roll the fenders.

I currently have a similar suspension setup. GR2's with Vogtland springs (1.2" drop Fr/Rr)

Since we are now talking 17's I feel I should post.

I am running a 17x 8.5 rota slipstream up front with a 245/40 with no rubbing issues what-so-ever. Its using a +35 offset which does put the tire about a 1/2 inch outside of the fenderwell, but I feel like the fitment of a 255/40 or 35 tire is possible with this offset as inside clearance is huge.

I am also running a decent drop, about 2" but my spring rate may be higher then other drops may offer.

    This doesn't look like a 2" drop.

This is a 2.2" drop (progress springs):

And this is a 1.2" drop (vogtland springs):

I'm estimating, plus thats not how the car is currently set up, its slightly lower.

The way I set it up was so the control arms are perfectly level when I am sitting in the car.

I know its more than an inch, and I'd guess its closer to 2", but again, that a rough estimate.

That is because the height is the main issues with the front of our cars. The 245/40-17s (24.71") are a hair shorter than the most traditional 225/45-17 (24.97") fitment. And noticeably shorter than a 235/45-17 (25.33"). The last size you mentioned...255/40-17 (25.03") would still be more than adequate height-wise. The width would (as you stated) depend on the wheel width and offset.
