You have to take the plastic cover off, it's down the back.....

    4g63lover:

GDi = Gasoline Direct injection system ( Basically it's crap unless you live in japan and run 100 octane fuel in it. )

as opposed to the DiD which is Direct inject Diesel, which the Pajero's ( Montero ) have.

Kind of, it's the same block, but different heads etc.... still a 4G64, but with GDI, which is slow and crappy, unless you run 100+ octane in japan

contrary to popular belief the GDI engine can run on lower octane just fine. The ECU is more than capable of learning a new ignition and fuel map curve. It'll just run alot more efficient on higher octane though. Because of its three stage burn, it runs lean by nature anyway. It's quite complex how GDI works, and the main problem with them is the earlier ones clogging up the inlet manifold, as they utilise masses of EGR which would cake up on the alloy intakes. The later ones run a bakelite manifold with smooth insides which stops the carbon from building up.

Have a mate who works at Mitsubishi and knows these GDIs inside out, he is the guy who trains up the technicians on how to service and repair them. In short the GDIs are not that suited to our fuel here though, the 2.4s are marginally better than the 1.8s.

Yep, but the thing is, they still melt pistons even when they have been tuned to run on 95, 98 is still the better option.....
