    Car shakes at 80mph

Hi all, I have what seems to be a slight problem. Basically when I hit 80mph or there abouts my steering starts to "shake", Its not uncontrolable but is very uncomfortable and doesnt feel too safe. I did the tracking and got the wheels aligned but it still does it. Maybe warped brake discs ir suspension?

    Thanks for any help.

A proper alignment and having your wheels/tires balanced is what you need to be looking into. Are your tires fairly new because it could also be a separating belt in one of them if not? It would only be "warped" rotors if the problem was only while braking, not while maintaining speed. Aside from that it could possibly be bent suspension components but I say start with the easy fix and see what happens.

Ive done the basics, It started when I had a blow out on a front tyre the other day due to major unevan tyre wear on the inside edge. So got new tyres balanced/aligned, but it still shakes at high speed. Thanks for your input, seems its going to be something costly.

Im thinking about getting new performance shox and springs.... would you suggest finding the exact problem before doing so, or changing out my suspension and seeing if the problem is solved?

IMO I would definitely fix the problem before upgrading. No sense in wasting money on expensive upgrades just to have them break or become damaged because you tried to cover up a problem instead of fixing it.

likely wheel balance, potential for alignment as stated above

also, I don'y know what kind of rims your on... but even if the tires are balanced, a bent rim can really mess up your ride quality....

I think when he had that blowout it damaged his exhaust bearings. So check that and blinker fluid also.

Take it to a reputable tire installation place or mechanic for the following:

    1. Have all the tires rebalanced. As Pinoy said...they should check for high speed balance too
    2. Have the wheels inspected for any bents or cracks
    3. Visually inspect the tires for signs of seperation

Depending what tire size you have on the car now will determine why you are experiencing vibration/shaking at higher speeds. Smaller tires with narrow widths weren't designed for higher speeds so you will experience shaking and vibrations.

alignment rarley has anything to do with a shake in the wheel, tire rod wear or lower control arm wear etc etc...(if you already did new tires w/balance). I wailed a curb about to weeks ago bend a rim and tie rod end, replaced both and now I still have a slight shake in the wheel when I doin 75-80 the wasn't their before, I think my lower control arm is tweaked.
