I used to have rubbing issue with 225 40 18 on Progress springs that I fixed it by rolling the fenders.
Anyone running this size tire? The wheels are 18x7.5", +45 offset. I can get a deal on some 235's but figured i'd have some rubbage. Dropped on Progress and rear GR-2's, soon to be AGXs.

ive had a 225/45/18, and i know thats totally different, but u can expect some very minor rubbing in the rear

damn rubbing w/ 225/40.. I don't wanna go 215.. I feel these wheels may be a lil softer
nm i found my answers, i'll have to tell the gentleman no deal. thanks
I only rubbed with 225 when i had alot of people in the back. And even then, it was minimal rubbing. I only rubbed when i hit a large dip in the road. This damn 235 i have rubs whenever i turn, or hit a bump. Ill be getting rid of it soon.
im runnin 225/45/17's with no problem, agreed they are a smaller wheel but they are also 45's instead of 40's and i have no problems with rubbing.
I was talking to guy on-line about tires and wheels and he told me to go with 225/40/18 but what it sounds like you guys are saying is that they will rub. Should I drop down to 215/40/18?
Thanks
it all depends on your wheels offset// anything below 235 should be fine 18needs 40 series 17...need 45 it can be 235 225 215 and so on jus dont go over 235
PIMPIN AINT EASY
u guys have to remember, there are 3 major consideration when fitting tires and wheels to your car.
1. width
2. overall height of tire and wheel package (u have the least flexibility here and should stay within 5% of stock (~25") to keep your speedometer calibrated)
3. offset
standard 18" sizing on the USDM 8G is
18x7.5 +45mm 225/40r18.
this is the "best" starting point size as it will NOT rub, even dropped to almost 3".
with that being said, if you are rubbing w/ 225/40r18, it's because you have a wider wheel and/or lower offset than 18x7.5 +45mm (or were both dropped deep and camber corrected).
remember that camber correction (on a lowered car) pushes the top of the tires out giving less clearance to the fenders.
rolling rear fenders gives you 1"-1.5" of extra clearance to work with.
25.4mm = 1"
offset lower than +45mm will give less clearance to the fender while offset higher than +45mm will give less clearance to the suspension.
offset and width are conversely related: generally speaking, starting with 18x7.5, the wider you go the higher the offset u will need to clear the fender; the narrower u go, the lower offset you can fit.
Thanks for all the info, it helped a lot

i have 18x8 38 offset and 235/40/18. i rub alittle bit since my rear camber is corrected in the 8g.
would i even notice a difference between 225/40/18 and 225/45/18?
