    gas door/lid not staying closed

my gas door doesn't want to stay closed all the time. many times it will just swing open. the original door was broken before i got the car, but my dad got it covered under insurance and got it replaced. so i don't know why it swings open and it's getting annoying.

a new door? this is a new door. and i didn't loose anything. this has been like this since it was replaced. nothing has failed on this door. it just swings open without help like you would open it up to pump gas

would have to look. this was all done at a body shop, so i don't see why it wouldn't be on there.

When you buy a new door from the dealership i dont think it comes with the "spring". You have to order that separately.

Its not really a spring, its kind of little metal clip that provides the tension to keep the door closed.

Need some paint or bodywork done in Chicagoland or NW Indiana???.. http://www.alsautobodyexperts.com/

if the door is swinging freely, then either the spring is missing or the door is broken.

here is a pic from an FS thread. that black piece on the hinge, under the lil piece that retains the gas cap is the spring.

My guess is that he didn't go to the body shop that's going to replace a part a year later for no cost, especially since it's been broken since he took receipt of it.

    • it didn't get broken
    • the body shop has a lifetime warranty

ah much better. went to the body shop, they saw they forgot to put that on, they ordered it from the dealership, and a few hours later, they had it there and put it on no charge.
