Pulled a manual trans from a Junkyard....

a couple weeks back i went to a local junkyard and was lucky enought to find an 8G with a Manual conversion ALREADY sitting in the engine bay complete with 3rd pedal, shifter, etc etc.

we immediately went home, got the tools, came back and pulled that sucker right out and took it home with everything.

Now, my only problem is i'm not sure which car this trans is originally from. My teahcer looked it up in one of the books and told me that its probably froma an '00-03 Eclipse spyder 2.4 or 3.0 (which i assumed it was) or from a 2002 Lancer 2.0L.

how can i find out for sure where its from? any solid advice...

Look for the Tranny code listed somewhere on the tranny. There should be one like the engine. The engine has the engine code on the front of the block, marked 4G64 or 6G72. Once you find the tranny code, look it up on the internet or call ur local mitsu dealer.

well..i did write down all the numbers i found on the casing. it was about 3 sets of numbers. These are the numbers i copied a few weeks back:

    *KF5M422F6NDYH6864

    *F5M424D6

    *500283

which one do you think is the trany code?

F5M42 is the tranny code which is the 5spd trans found in the 2.4L Eclipse.

From what I have heard from the people at the Normal, IL plant, they made one 5spd 8g prototype and no more. I think the 5spd DE is a myth as nobody can provide proof that it is true.

the previous owner did some tings to it before junkin' it. i found it with some rusty after marker header, kyb shocks, and slotted stock size rotors too. i can tell someone nabbed the aftermarket exhaust. i wonderd who was the previous owner but who the hell knows. All i know is that he/she left a nice M/T with all necessary components for me to easily snatch up. :)

If you really want to find out where did it came from, just check the VIN number on top of the trans.

i agree with you on this. although there might be parts for it floating around...i dunno. it might just be drawings.

    HAHAHAHAHA

Thats my old car that was BLASTED in the front. I didnt have an aftermarket header, thats just a rusty stocker. But yeah that car had some kyb's and slotted rotors. I had a 2.5" custom exhaust with an N1 muffller too. Was the body kit still on it? The sides and rear were good after the accident, I figured someone would grab them.
