    8g 5 speed swap 2002 and up?

What is it about the 2002 and up cars that make it a problem to swap over to a 5 speed? Isnt it something with the electronics? I am looking at v6 cars by the way.

which i WILL not deal with...whats the engine light for? lack of tranny sensors? would an eclipse ecu work and fix the problem?

As far as I know there's not a fix for this issue with 02-03 models.

Swaping ECUs wouldnt do it?! Isn't it the ECU that throws the codes?

I think that you might have to rewire the ECU connectors because there not the same but I'm not sure. I wondered the same question when I was doing the swap in my 02 but never really got a straight answer.

seems like thats against anything Mitsu's ever done...usually the wiring connectors are almost always the same...hmmm...i find it hard to believe no ones even tried it.

in the 00-01 you can simlpy swap ecu's and fix the problem with codes but then you would have to cut the harness plug off and cedar it to an eclipse plug. basically you would be eliminating like 10 wires i think and then cedaring around 98 wires to the eclipse harness plug while laying upside on the passenger side floor with a pin out chart next you, lol not fun. or you pay 200 to boomslang and theyll make you a custom adapter, thats what i did.

the problem with 02 -03 is the speed sensor is different then the 00-01 eclipse (which is the most commonly used years) trannys so speedometer wont work. i believe theres a fix for this over in the tutorial section but i dont know if it would erase the ses light. i wonder if the 02-03 eclipse trannys would have switch over to the updated speed sensor also which might make this problem disappear

so youve looked at the ecu's side by side and they are different?...so who here has an 8g thats done a 5speed swap? particularly a v6 car..

the problem is that they changed ecus in the 02 to 03 models, so they are not interchangable with the previous versions...the 01 is slightly different as well but can be swapped with an 00 ecu

the manual tansmission has a different connection but i believe that that still threw some codes as well when goosey tried it with his 4 cyl....the same principals are for both swaps they are almost identical with the exception of the axle swap really i suggest you really read over his tut its pretty thorough....as far as mechanically working the swap will be fine but if you need inspections it will throw a code

the speed sensor is a seperate thing, the difference is the 02 and 03 trannys have an internal sensor however all manuals have an external one so you can use one from any year. there are several workarounds being looked at for that as well

basically look for a 99-01 if your plan from the get go is to do the swap it ill make life soo much easier
