a sealed box with the l7's would have a little more punch and a flat response, but not hit the deeper bass as loud .ported would definatly have louder lows. it really all depends on if the box is within the specs for the sub. sealed boxes usually sound good even if its too small of a box and ported would sound like crap if its too small.do you plan on using one or 2 l7s? as long as you put it in the proper size sealed or ported box both will sound good. the l7s are good subs.
Personally, I would recommend evaluating what you want to do before you decide on a subwoofer/amp/box setup.
Here are some things to think about:
1.) What do you care about more, being loud (SPL) or crisp clean sound (SQ)?
2.) How much space are you working with?
3.) How many subs do you want to run?
4.) What do you have as your front stage?
5.) Is your car wired to support the power the L7 requires?
newbie galore so far in this thread.
chereck, what are you meaning by #5?
i do agree with what you're asking in #2 and #3 because the L7 box isn't small by any means.
^ i think he means right gauge for whatever amp he wants..

Oh yea I just have one L7 and my last sub I had 1 700 watt rms audiobahn in a sealed box. It sounded like it hit harded than the L7 and the L7 is 750watt rms. Maybe I need to turn my amp u to support the L7. It is still set for the audiobahn I had. My amp gives out 750 watts off of 1 channel. But I think I might put my L7 in a sealed box. I like more quality than rumble. Thanks for all the info guys.
keep in mind, the gain on the amp is not a volume knob
what amp is it first of all?

I had just one L7 in a box like this.. http://www.tycromedia.com/images/Cus...0(12-inch).jpg . let me tell ya..the l7 is a beast ifff your lookin for jus loud bass. I only had 1 and it pounded..hooked up to a kicker zx1000 but it hit wayy harder hooked up to a mtx 7801. Go ported for sure. i had it in a sealed box first..and then switched to ported and it was louder. Now i have mtx 7500's and personally they hit cleaner and harder to me. the only other sub i would wanna try is the Jl W7..anyone have experience wit that?
i've seen one in person, and don't personally like how they designed it because you have to take off 2 rings then lift up the surround to screw the sub into a box, thus you put a lot of wear and tear on the surround not to mention the risk of slipping and puncturing it.
wait, any amp and sub may be good, but what really matters is the cabling behind it all. What gauge cabling are you running? i went from 8 gauge with a JL 1000/1 cause I didn't get my 0 gauge in, but when i did, it was a night to day difference.
I have one 12" L7 in a 3.5 cu. ft.ported box tuned to 27htz getting only about 450 watts from a kenwood amp and needless to say...its damn loud.just need to save up and get a new amp....thinkin hifonics....
i have an L7 in a ported box, around 2 cu ft tuned around 35 hz running a 1600 watt Lanzar amp bridged.. thats all i need
