This thread is going to be both a learning thread and a build thread.
Im working on some CF stuff right now. I also want everyone to know that you can PM me to have specific work done. I have two people I'm already dealing with. Once I get their stuff completed and their feedback, hopefully I can attract a few more of you to do the same.
So here's the before and after.
First try sucks. THAT is why i bought a second interior to practice before i lay the final product to ship back to who wants it.

Anyone else who wants to work with CF ill tell you this. Just try it. Watching the Vids, reading the websites does nothing. I'm a hands on learner so i just had to wing it. YES watching them gave me an idea but you dont really know until you try it.

Here is my tutorial:

when you buy this, it comes with hardener. Read the directions, but after a while you can just eye it your self.

I only paided that part black because Carbon Fiber will NOT be touching that area.

i covered the whole thing with resin/hardener mix. I let it sit until it is "sticky" to the touch.


lay the carbon fiber VERTICAL and HORIZONTAL. make sure you pull it tight and leave a few inches around the edges, 1 inch will do but i have a bit extra here. use a heat gun to help the cure time.


put a coat of resin mix ontop. use a heat gun to help the cure time. You are going to need to do this 3-4 times. Make sure you have a really good layer of the resin before you start the sanding.

thanks, the only prob is thats my old blue interior and i forgot to pain that piece black before i tried, you can see a tad bit of the blue but not much.

i just used regular resin and harder for fiberglass and it worked just fine more teasers coming later today

Keep practicing. Its not great, but its not bad.

What you should have done is cut the CF where the opening was before laying the resin. That way you can wrap it a little better, and it won't come out so wavey. Try to keep your CF pattern as horizontal as possible from one side to the other.

Now remember, if you cut it, its going to want to start to unwravel. You'll have to do something about that... I'll let you figure it out. :)

i wish i read that BEFORE i did the shifter bezel and hte other side. this set is for personal use anyways. you cant learn until you try. new pics coming soon. i think the first came out better then the second but this is the reason. i didnt spread the resin/hardener far enough on the bezel to try to save the middle and started cutting and splitting it. ill have to clean it up a bit but im learning different tricks along the way.

Todays work:



^obviously needs work. all the ends are being cured right now to be ready to cut tomorrow. i think i need to invest in a dremel. that might work easier.

hopefully now that i have realized some of what to and not to do that i can learn for the next few objects and soon you will all see where this practice is really leading to.

again i want to thank the 3 guys for giving me all the links/info i needed without a true spoon feed because i went and tried it anyways.

And I've found delicate painters tape works great and doesn't pull the Carbon fiber apart.

ill have to pick some of that up. for the time being ive been using duck tape that my sizors go threw like nothing. pluse i make the duck tape far enough from the item that when i cut the edges of the CF the tape wont get inthe way of the item

well i tried to clean up the shifter bezel a bit. i need to invest in either a dremel or those sheers to finish it up. i found out that i wrapped it too much around the side to fit into the perfectly so im going to need a dremel for sure. need to wait til next pay check tho.




also the passenger vent is ALMOST done. i just need to add another layer of the resin to harden it up more. too soft right now
