    I need some help....

Im new around here....To start off I own a 95 GST that Im currently building and I just bought a 95 Galant. The only problem is, the auto trans....When the car has overdrive turned off, its run just fine, once overdrive is turned on, the car acts as if its in neutral....The guy says he has driven the car like this for over 2 years now with no problems....?

Also, this car is going to be my dd, and I was looking through the sticky but none of the links work for me(timing belt replacement, auto to 5sp swap, etc). Just curious if those are down for good or not?

Links should be in the Tutorials section, under the 7th gen forum.

Transmission problem is a really simple fix (relatively speaking) dealing with some solenoid or control switch or computer, I forget, (it's been a while), but search for 'OD problems' or like terms and there'll be an answer here. You can drive it with OD off and it will be a 3 speed essentially, but your fuel economy will suffer. Fixing it will save you bills in the long run.

    Welcome to the forums.

    Thank You....

I found the tutorials but all of the links are broken.....I cant get them to open.....as far as the auto tranny fix.....Im wanting to see what all I need to do the five speed swap....Im not new to cars at all just new to the galant...

The good thing is, I have a ton of 4g63 parts laying around that Im thinking of swapping over....Ive got a spare head, a spare turbo setup, spare intake manifold.....So Im going to read up some more, but Im thinking about a 4g64/63 swap and boost.....

Anybody has any experience with this trans issue, please chime in...

Also, I have access to a donor GST...So Im curious If the suspension will swap out aka the Knuckles, calipers, rotors, etc so I can make this car a five lug....?

    Im located in Southern Missouri....

I must say out of any other forum Im on, this seems to be the fastest as far as responses that are actually helpful...

Well, heres the plan so far.....Keep in mind though, my 2g comes first as the 35R setup is about half way done....But here we go....

    Suspension -
    - Swap out knuckles from a 95 GST
    - Swap out front and rear disk brake setups
    - Tokico Blue shocks - Spares from my dsm
    - Eibach pro kit - Spares from my dsm
    - Energy Suspension Bushings - If the 2g dsm kit fits the galant

    Transmission -
    - 5 speed swap - Most likely utilizing a 2g GST tranny
    - 2g GST axles - I think I read somewhere that they would fit if the 2g tranny is used??????
    - Stock clutch
    - Stock 7 bolt flywheel
    - Probably will go ahead and order prothane motor mounts while Im at it

    Motor/turbo -
    - DOHC swap utilizing my spare 2g head - will be ported and rebuilt by me - I work in a shop :D
    - FP 16g turbo - spare
    - Stock 2g exhaust manifold - spare
    - Stock 2g intake manifold - spare
    - stock 98 GST cams - spare
    - Intercooler and piping
    - 1g BOV - spare
    - DSM 450cc injectors or Evo VIII injectors - Already have spare 450cc's

Here are some of my questions....As you can see I have most of this stuff laying around so I might as well put it to use....

    1. If I use the eclipse(2g GST) tranny, will I need eclipse axles.
    2. Will the eclipse brake pedal, clutch pedal, master cylinder, slave cylinders, and shifter base all work?
    3. Since I will end up boosting this car, I have a extra eclipse wiring harness, 1g CAS, and I can get another eprom....Can I use any of this in the swap?

If anyone sees problems with what I have listed let me know, Im gonna do a lot of experimenting with this car just to try things out....

Also, I have a spare 2g Mass air sensor....Does this need to be used if I boosted.....And what do you guys use for tuning....I hate SAFC's so Im kinda curious....

ok everything you said will work.

as far as the tranny in some RARE cases the galant axles don't fit the tranny. but chances are you will be ok.

to put it this way the galant 94-98 is a longer version of the eclipse 95-99 with just wiring diffrences, everything swaps over. literally. shifter, pedals, everything. the 94-98 galants are DSMs

with the 64 block you will need to plug some oil return holes the DOHC head doesn't use. there is a tutorial somewhere. i will find it when i have more time.

here is a member who is doing it on one of the other galant forums. our tuts here are all over the fucking place.

    Cant thank you enough man......:smt023

I read somewhere that the galant is actually lighter than the eclipse......Is this true.....If so I may end up swapping all my eclipse stuff over and making this car a 4 dr grocery getter sleeper and get my eclipse back to daily driving status.....

I have already started to piece together the 5 sp swap so after thats done, I will install the suspension and start other work.....

yes galant is ligher than a Eclipse.

    now go swap.

  10. #10
yeah, people will not know what hit them. and the galant is a little lighter.

you can AWD it too. you do the same thin as you were converting a gst to awd. the JDM galant vr-4's were v6 twin turbo AWD.

Also a plus that no one else has mentioned before, the engine bay is also bigger so fitting that GT35R won't be as much of a chore. ;)

Yeah our bays are pretty...empty. Stock passenger fan would be the only issue I can think of with larger turbos. Wow, I'm linked to this topic lol.

Well, Im considering what to do now.......Ive done so much work on my eclipse but the thought of making a 4dr sleeper is tempting....

I have no interest in making the car awd....Call me stupid but my roots is fwd and every car ive built has been fwd....

Ill get some pictures up this weekend of the car and see what you guys think....
