Clicking under the hood, any advice? :)

    Hey guys!

When I turn my car on there is a rhythmic clicking noise, the higher the RPM the faster the clicking, so it's obviously related.

I've heard engines sound like this before, and mine started doing it, it makes it sound like a POS so I'd like to fix it :)

Any advice on what to do?

    Check your oil.

If you are a V6, are you using 93 at the pump?

    it's a 4 cylinder, I'm using regular unleaded.

And someone else told me it's my lifters too. How would I fix that problem?

Remove them, soak them in carb cleaner overnight, then shoot carb cleaner through them to clear them, reinstall.

oil change usually fixes the sound. i add this to the oil if the sound returns between oil changes:

    or

the sound is caused by sticky lifters. they sitck because they are coated w/ varnish from old/dirty oil.

Yea I just had my oil changeda couple weeks ago. I'll try adding some of that stuff to it. Just pour a quart straight in where I put oil in?

Would it be better to take off the head and clean all the lifters and valves out?

Get rid of the Fram oil filter if one is on your car.

whats wrong w/ fram oil filters?

Whatever oil you use, just use Mitsubishi OE oil filters. I had used Mobil One in my 01 I4 ES and the lifter tick was almost non-existent afterwards. Then in my GTZ I used AMSoil filters and 5W30 oil.

The filter element quality and flow characteristics. I don't think they match well with what our oil pumps send through the engine. Use Mitsubishi, Mobil, or AMSoil filters.

They have a crap anti drainback valve and end up on full bypass all the time and end up running low oil pressure at idle and end up starving the lifters for oil.

Wix is about the best non OEM filter on the market, the Amsoil is a joke, they are usually re badged frams or puralators. The Mobil 1 is a nice filter but a bit overpriced as you can get the same Champion Labs filter under other names for alot cheaper.

Wix is OE for a lot of manufacturers, after having disassembled 15 or so different brands of filters here at school I am pretty set in my decision to stay with Wix filters. Also V6 guys, you can run a 51334 filter instead of a 57062 as the 51334 is bigger, and used to be what Wix recommended for our application any way. The 51334 is what they still recommend for an '02 Isuzu Trooper, if you need an application to remember.
