    turbo of course.

old 1g's are the best budget cars, they are really really quick too.

I know a guy who runs reasonable numbers and has less than 2k into his 1g DSM turbo. plus if u can get AWD instead of FWD

AWD is definitely a huge advanatage, but if I had to go to an older car then I'd definitely grab me a galant VR4 just to stray true to the galants. Then I'd put a 6 bolt 2.4L block under that biatch and a FMIC and be on my merry way!!

Who says you can't get a Galant in AWD?...Mine should be done by the end of this summer.

I can only see one problem with turbocharging or swapping the motors...money is not that big of a deal if you are planning on doing something like that. But you go to remeber one thing...traction. My friends civic with a turbo has about 250HP now it's little sess with less boost. But he was only able to get into 14's on the 1/4 mile. But his trap speed was 101MPH, which means he really should be running 13's at least. His car burns out through the 1st and 2nd gear. Plus he's got to drop the clutch at what 3K RPM at MOST.

Now let's see eclipse AWD turbo (any generation): Like mentioned previously, 2K can get your eclipse into 13's easily. My friend with a 1st gen Talon with Greddy T25, downpipe, exhaust, boost controller, expernal wastegate, and that's pretty much it is running 12.5, and that's without power-shifting. Plus noone can tell that the car is that fast.

Now the downside of aclipse turbo...expect to pay close to 2K for insurance (that's only liability) on a 2nd gen eclipse.

That's why I'm not hooking up my car anymore, nor buying something else. I'd rather wait a little and get something good. Like an R32 for example

Teach your friend how to drive. I'm sure his clutch is a stage 2 or stage 3, if not, I sure hope so. So he should launch from 2nd gear. If he's really trying to get his times low, then he should have some drag slicks on the front. My friends FWD neon with 125 shot of nitrous runs a 13.89 with a 2nd gear launch, and craig nailed a flat 14.00 with his. Since he does have FWD, he has to look at all the ways he can get that power to the ground efficiently.

I totally agree with you about the skill it takes to launch a car. The guy who drive the car is a good driver, he had a civic before, and was running 13's in that one. But now he's driving a 4WD car, and he has the fastest time for his car throughout US (cars that have same mods as he does). But that's not the point I'm making here...
Everyone can agree that 4WD is better for racing in general, and for drag racing. Just look at the Option videos, where guys are trying to break the lap record...who's still #1? The Evo ofcourse .
This is my personal opinion...I was going to do the motor swap myself, but I have changed my mind and decided to buy a faster car that has only 2 doors. Hopefully if everything works out just fine I will be driving a sprts car (Toyota or Mazda) by the end of this summer. For now I'm very very happy with my galant.

What if you install Quaife Limited Slip differential in your FWD ?

It will help out for sure. It will depend on which one you get though. If you get one that is designed for the street use only...you will continue having traction problems.
If you go for a different LSD that locks up both wheels...you car will not handle as good in turns, but will have good traction on the straightaway.

One onther solution is to go widebody or overfenders with like 245 series rubber, that's fairly soft. Otherwise don't launch the car at very high RPM.
