i see you found my rear disc swap tutorial.
you DO have the buy the backing plates from the donor car. some modification is required. You gotta cut some of the slot were the E-brake cable comes out of.
I decided for my big mod is going to be a rear disc swap. I drums squeak and suck so it's the perfect time.

This is the tutorial I was reading on how to do the mod. I believe this is the same one from the galant wiki. This tutorial says it involves cutting the backing plates and stuff. I though there was no cutting involved. I though you had to buy backing plates from a galant or an eclipse that had rear discs. Then after that I thought it was all plug and play. Is that true?
I was getting this idea from seeing Greddy's rear disc swap sale that includes everything you would have needed for the swap (which I would have bought if I had 50 posts by that time).

So even buying the backing plate you still need to modify the plates still? Not what I was hoping to hear lol. Going to be harder than I thought. So the plates that Greddy was selling were premodified, now I'm starting to get it.
Is there any backing plates from a car I could buy that do not involve modifying?
im pretty sure the backing plates from a v6 galant dont need modifying but im not 100% positive.

i'm not sure, i got my set from rez887, which is from a 99 v6.
the hardest part is drilling the hole where the E-brake cable goes...
and pulling out the cable itself...
these are the mods i did to my setup, and it's been running perfectly for a few years now. just gotta modify the E-brake cable to fit that whole in the back of the backing plate.

Well I'm more of a bolt on type of guy for mods, meaning I don't like using a dremel and a drill. Anybody selling the backing plates pre-modified? :)
i can sell you mine, im going back to drum brakes!!!
let me know
Sure but you have a 94 Galant, is it the same backing plates for the 2001? How much are you looking for?
What else do I need for a complete swap. Calipers, pads, rotors, backing plates, is that it? What about caliper brackets? Do those come with the calipers or do I need to get those from a donor car too?
cmon, ive done the swap a few times on 7g and 8g - the backing plates are the same.
you need calipers that should come with the bracket and rear disks. Also, if youre not going to use SS lines, id suggest buying 2g gst eclipse rear brake line with male ending.
if you need entire swap let me know
I can get you all but disks

pm me an offer
I'll pm you tomorrow with an offer, I need to go to bed. I also got to figure out how much to offer ;) .
Are pbr rotors any good? I'm trying to do this semi cheaply meaning I don't need to have brembo or any high priced item if the cheap item does the job just as good.
i used pep boy rotors, about $40 each at the time
edit: pbr = pep boys rototrs i assume

You know you can get R1 Concepts rotors for like $85.00 shipped right?
i did my swap years ago, before we were able to buy the R1s at that price. :(
but you can buy slotted R1s at that price now, both slotted and drilled is 100 somethin i think
