can't aim headlights: adjustment screws don't work

so i threw in my new black-housing usdm headlights when i replaced my fender. vertical up/down aiming was easy, and they're pretty set in that direction now.

the L/R horizontal aiming apparatus that's on the inside end of the headlights is fubar though. i took the clear plastic window off and noticed the plastic stem that reaches down to turn the tab was broken. i replaced it with the old ones from my old headlights, and they're making contact. but when i turn in either direction, i just hear a clicking and nothing happens, no L/R movement.

bottom line the gearing or plastic magic that's inside doesn't work and/or is broken. i would settle for less than perfect, but right now the headlights point in the EXACT same spot, so it's just one giant glowing spot in the middle of the road and no spread whatsoever.....

any ideas on how to fix this or align them in a different way??? being alone on the road is pretty awful now, visibility is wierd.....

i just put my new HIDs in this afternoon and they look awesome. the black housing really makes all the difference.......

there's no satisfaction or sigh of relief though since the headlights point in the exact same spot, it's like a fake orgasm.....ugghhhh this car is going to kill me man

I'd rather have the knowledge and ability to do it than the money to buy it already done.

well yeah, i replaced the plastic window and attached downstem.....if that's what you're talking about. it makes contact, but the mechanism inside the housing itself is broken and i can't get any L/R adjustment......

i tried sticking my fingers in there and physically pushing the headlamp itself that the adjuster would push for me (if it were working) but it's harder than a rock in either direction....it's like these are stuck this way forever
