    97 auto ECU into 96 5 speed?

I am having issues with my CEL coming on with a P1443 code and no matter what i do i cannot get rid of it. The engine also lacks a lot of power at full throttle. It has more acceleration at part throttle than full. I have a good running 1997 auto galant that has a lot of frame rot so i was thinking of swapping the harness and ECU into the 96 but i am worried if there is any issues regarding the transmission? If I must, i will swap the tranny in too. I know I need to swap intakes too because of vacuum lines and EGR etc. I just need to get this thing going because my 97 has an inspection sticker that is expiring at the end of the month and I need to start driving the 96 asap. It wont pass MA inspection throwing a code. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

I BELIEVE that there isnt a difference in the ecu from 5 speed to automatic because the transmission has its own computer. Wait for other responses though because im not 100% sure on that.

I believed the galant auto has computer but not the manule
but swapping ecu has no effect on the transmission.

If you try to search 7g galant 5 speed computer, you wont find anything.

Thanks for the replies. I will try to swap it all out.

Does anyone know if the ECU/PCMs are identical? I may just try swapping the module out first since I am getting no voltage reading on the EVAP lead. The 97 doesnt have an EGR valve nor EVAP etc.

    Thanks,

I would said they are the same, because the 5speed swapped guys don't need to swap out ecu.
