2 step doesnt do anything on an automatic trans car. Its beneficially on a manual trans car because you can hold the gas to the floor and have the RPMs limited at the point you choose to be best for your launch. On an auto trans you can only do that if your doing a neutral drop which is a terrible idea. When you launch an automatic car you just hold the brake pedal to the floor and hold the gas as far down as you can without the car moving forward then mash the gas and release the brake when you launch.

Its called a 2 step rev limiter. I believe they call them stutter boxes on carburated engines, on fuel injection engines it can typically be done within the ECU so a seperate box isnt needed. There are also aftermarket ignition boxes that have a 2 step feature, esentially all it does is pull timing at a given RPM to cause the engine to max out there even at WOT.

There are actually three steps to doing a two step.

1 - Put car in neutral and press the gas pedal so its pegging off the limiter.
2 - Pull the gear selector down as hard as you can into Drive.
3 - Yell "Twoooo Steeeepppp" as your transmission explodes with tremendous force leaving you crying and asking yourself why you just did that.

If you post stupid and incorrect information, you will get red nuggets.

I cant wait til spring, im gonna launch my car off the 2 step at 12psi@6000rpms, then the boost will be in a progressive ramp by gear, 14psi in 2nd, 20psi in 3rd and 30psi in 4th
I am amped and this is 4-5 months away. I really wanna see how well the slicks will hold the power.

Theres basically two types of two steps, one that cuts fuel, one that cuts ignition. The ignition cuts are safer and more commonly used. Dont get a two step confused with antilag systems that rally cars use.

I had an ignition cut two step on my old G controlled by an EPROM from DSMChips.com. I could hit 7psi with a 3000rpm rev limit ... but unless I had slicks or drag radials(which I never did), there was no way my FWD with LSD insert and crappy Khumo tires could keep from roasting. I didn't hardly use it, but it sounded cool though haha.

I road in a buddies 1g AWD with an IPT built auto with stall converter and it had a pretty insane launch.
    7g for life!

Evo X come with a factory 2 step...Previous evos before didn't and had to be added.

2 step/stutterbox main purpose is to have boost right from the start rather building boost especially in M/T cars. A/T you can brake boost which no need for a 2 step is needed.

You have to be careful though...you still have to feather the clutch especially in a AWD car. A 2 step at 5000+ rpms with a hard launch will cause some serious driveline shock and prone to driveline failure.

I have a 2 step/Stutterbox set at 5000 rpms and I get around 8psi from my old Evo 3 B16g setup in my Galant VR4 and it will snap your neck....definite advantage off the dig.

Yeah evo 8s I believe had a 2 step at 3k. Roman has an evo 8 ecu in his G and I remember my first meet with him he was revving at 2 step with blow off valve going off and some one asked "Are you redlining?"
