    DOHC Headgasket

this is not a question but simply something i wanted to see.

went to the dealer today and took the 63t head gasket and the galant GS head gasket and laid them on top of each other.

i had heard that you were able to use the 63T MLS head gasket as long as it clears the bore and wanted to see how close they were and the results are in.

THEY ARE THE EXACT SAME when looking at all the holes and design and only the bore differs.

hope this helps for those wanting to go turbo and DOHC as the MLS coupled with ARP head studs is pretty much bullet proof and add to the security and confidence in running higher boost levels. if you still dont want to pay 130 for a head gasket and want to run a stock GS one for like 30-60 bucks thats fine too but just clarifying the option for the 63 MLS gasket here

I wouldnt use MLS gasket if you do the swap when motor is in the car. It may seal it may not, you never know. If i went with MLS Id take the head and block to machine shop and get them decked.

OEM gasket with ARPs is good for 30 psi. I dont think any of us will reach this number any soon
God created turbo lag to give the v8's a brief moment of hope.

head is decked and the block is getting decked and it will seal.. i trust the MLS more than a stock gasket that was never meant to see boost but thats just me.

well then since you had a 63T and a GS gasket in your hands, was there any difference in quality or material? if they looked IDENTICAL (minus the difference in bore) and they're made from the exact same material, it's probably ok.

i ran an OEM headgasket for 15K miles when i was turbo, and another 20K miles after i took the turbo off.

i'm surprised you support the MLS gasket so much.

back when i was going turbo i spent a good couple days doing nothing but eating shitty food and reading about headgaskets on dsmtuners. i don't even think i went outside. i was so paranoid about dodging all the headgasket myths and bullshit i wanted to make sure i got the best info. what i found was nothing beats OEM. MLS, along with cometic and the other big shots, had it's fair shit of bad reviews. OEM was flawless across the board.

but what about an OEM headgasket on an application that it wasn't designed for? i figured with ARP headstuds, my car with an OEM gasket wouldn't be much weaker than a 2G

i have heard a lot about how bad Cometic is and watched 2 go on my boys evo. big difference is the MLS gaskets go for like 140 and the stock OE head gasket is 60 bucks. i am going with ARP head studs for sure but i will check a little more into it. thanks for bringing all that to light.

I ran the Mitsu MLS gasket with ARP Head STUDS(not bolts) without issues in my 63t. No decking on the block, I had the head decked though.

i use felpro for my other cars, but the OE gaskets arent much for this thing so i use oe but i would use felpro for everything but the head gasket.
