my tire size: 205-60 R14 any way to get around that?

need tires, so should I get the ones that are on a sticker on the car's doors, or is it bettter to have the same size tires I have now?
this is a 1997 Galant ES

any difference that would be noticable?

That's strange my 97 ES came with 195/60/15 stock. When I went tire shopping, I noticed that the 2 tire sizes were 185/70/14 & 195/60/15. I don't know if this will help but in tire sizes the first set of #'s is the width, second set is for height, and third set is for rim/wheel size. So you need to get tires to fit your rims. You may be able to get away with 195/60/14. Just check your current rim & tires to see how they fit.

I have no idea why tires right now are 205 60 14 ...... threw me off there ... I'm wondering if its worse to have wider tires ... or its fine as long as they fit the rim?

If it were me I would go ask a tire expert what would be best for your situation. (ie;driving conditions and habits) This will really throw you for a loop, I'm riding on 205/55/16 when it is recommended to roll 205/50/16 to stay true with stock dimensions. Last spring when we had the recall, I took my car to the Mitsubishi boys and they loved they stance I had. So really just talk to a tire expert and he can put you on the right track.

195/60-14 is not a good choice as it would "overspin" your tire and lead to 1) inaccurate speed reading (you'll be going slower than what the speedo reads) and, 2) you milage will increase faster than it actually is. The bottom line here is to KEEP YOUR OVERALL DIAMETER AS CLOSE TO OEM as possible, no matter if 14" or 18" wheels. For 185/70-14 the overall diameter is 614.60 mm (24.2 inches). The closest non-oem size is 195/65-14 at 609.10 mm, then its the 205/60-14 at 601.60 mm. 195/60-14 results in and overall diameter of 589.60mm. If you want do do your own math here's the formula for a 185/70-14:

(14"*25.4) + 2*(.70*185)=614.60mm

This formula will work for any size wheel and tire.

so yea with that said, im assuming the 185/70 is teh stock size. with the 205/60, ur speedo is reading 2.1% too fast. Which means, when ur speedo says 60mph, ur really going 58.7 mph

nonetheless, try to stick with a tire size the same as recommended by the manufacturer or one about the same size to keep things rolling accurate. also, remember to buy tires in pairs. a new tire is bigger than a worn out tire just because of the treadwear. uhm o yea, also make sure that the two front wheels always have the same size tires since those are ur drive wheels

I'm thinkin if 205's are wider, they will give me a better control of a car ..... so 2% diff of speed really won't boter me ...... I mean ... I do 90 from home to work/college ......

i got 205/40z/17 on my 97es. only diference is speed. like he said ull go slower. but all good. nice control on mine

I got 225/50-16 on my car (less than 0.08% off in size), I hate skinny tires, and I don't super low profile tires, 45-50 series are fine for me because of the nice balance they give performace/ride. As far as 17s go, the perfect size to get is 225/45-17 (the size is less than 0.4% off).

As for me, I'm thinking about 245/45-16 but don't know if they'll fit.
