***Just Bought 2000 Galant, What Next ? ****

Hey Everyone,

I just picked up a 2000 Galant V6 with 140k Miles (Cheap).

What are some of the first things I should do maintenance wise ??

I plan on changing front and rear shocks/struts.

It rides kinda rough .

Please let me know.

since you just got it, i would do a full tune up. you dont know what the other owner did with it

X2^ Timing belt,waterpump and crank sensor.

Definitely look into a tune up and make sure that all standard maintenance is done. Timing belt should be replaced every 60k so if your guy got it done twice you should have like 40k left on the belt or so. I would imagine you dont have a full service history, so change timing belt and waterpump since they are right there.

What type of car is this a daily, daily/performance-ish/track? Depending on your purpose you may want to lower the car in which case the ride will be rough, but fun.

hey thanks for the fast replies, keep em coming.

I bought the car as a daily driver, I put a lot of miles on cars going back from Philly to Brooklyn NY.

Even though the car has high mileage I want it to last and ride decent.

I have other cars with super low mileage so I'm using this one to rack up the miles

I plan on keeping it as close to stock, except for maybe HID lights for visibility and maybe better speakers.

Its an ES V6, the only thing I don't like is the previous owner tinted the friggin windshield, So I need to remove it ASAP before I get pulled over.

As long as you have the right tools its not that hard. Get yourself a Haynes Manuel and you will see if its something you can handle. Gas Mileage will be between 20-24mpg. Some say they get more but average its anywhere between that.

I used that thread.

On purely highway trips ive hit around 28, but around town its 20-22 mixed 23-24ish the v6 numbers may be a bit lower, but the G is a heavy car so that extra bit of power may put them around the same.
