Front and Rear Strut Bar w/ Subs

I have two 12 inch subs in my trunk that do slide around a lot. I have them tucked all the way in back against the rear seat. If I were to buy a rear strut bar would that prevent my subs from moving? Also what is a good brand to get for both the front and rear towers?

I don't see how you will be able to install a rear strut bar in an 8g.

Word of advice though, rear of the Galant, all you need is a sway bar, nothing else. The rear deck is strong enough and acts as a strut bar and better then any strut bar. Just saying, if you search this site and do your homework, you'll know what Im talking about.

To install rear bar you need to take out the back part of the seat, but you should try some velcro as already mentioned.

The rear deck IS the strut bar. Those made to fit on a 3G Eclipse

nope. to install a rear Strut TOP Bar on a USDM 8G would require cutting the rear deck shelf... not just the carpetted trim, the actual METAL rear deck (which allready does basically the same job structurally as an STB).

People just don't listen. This is why I get frustrated sometimes. If you don't know, don't give advice. Not fair to someone to mess up or waste their money because you gave them the wrong info, is it? No offense.

I bought my first 8G back in 99 and I've had 3 8G Galants since. There are a few of us old timers here that know what the hell we are talking about. I'm not a TGC old timer but definitely know the inside and out of an 8G.

Raz is correct; though to state it explicitly, behind the rear seats is the rear deck. On either side of the rear deck are the strut towers. The rear deck is in between the two towers, therefore a bar would not even fit across because there is sheet metal where the bar would go. That being said, the rear deck is already pretty dang sturdy, and no, even if you were to make something custom to go around the sheet metal, the bar would be going inside the car, not in the trunk.

To answer you last question, a GOOD front strut bar would be the OEM Eclipse GT bar, a DC Sports Bar, or a Carbing bar. Avoid things like Megan or eBay brands. Those bars have pivot points which completely defeats the purpose of having a strut tower bar.

I removed myback seat and bolted the box through the seat back cover using a couple of flat brackets, similar to the ones that come with new headunits.
