Icon5 Spun Bearing, What To Do?

So i suspect i have spun a bearing on my hj galant , its the 6A12 DOHC 2.0L. Not sure if its worth repairing it, rebuilding it, or doing a replacement.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Also wanting to know what work is involved in repairing it.

    Thanks guys.

depends on how bad it really is!

you dont know for a fact that it is spun, which can be a good thing. What makes you think that it is spun? Could the noise that you hear be something different?

You will have to drop the oil pan off the engine and remove the each rod bearing cap and see if one of the bearings is messed up or spun.

Check the crank journals and have re machined or have the crank replaced if needed. while you are under there replace all your rod bearings you will be happy you did, once one goes that could mean more are going to go.

If its a spun bearing more than likely your going to have to get machine work done to it. Also you need to find out why you spun the bearing.

Can the work be done from under the car?

Ouch!!! Yeah that sounds like a spun bearing. Your going to have to drop the oil pan and see which cylinder is damaged and how much damage was put to it...Mostly you do have to take the motor out and have it machanic machine it, or replace it with a new motor.

No it cant be done from under the car. Unless youre just seeing if one is spun. If one is spun either the block or crank or both are going to have to be machined. It depends on how and where it spun.

Ok no worries buddy! thanks for you help.

Pretty much an engine swap isnt it? Cheapest way anyway.

unless you can do magic it can't be done with out pulling the motor. but you will need to send your crank out more then likely it needs to be turned at least .10, also I would HIGHLY advise to get a new oil pump for your car which is one of the possibilities you spun a bearing.
