ok so the signal er voltage reading is the same... hmm. Wait, has anybody tried connecting the power wire for the sensor to just a 12 volt source, like the cig lighter power? If Galante is having the signal, then he found the right signal wire, and its getting to the cluster, so what if he just tapped into say another signal wire for something else, maybe something with the fuel gauge? Dang I need to get a new speed sensor so I could try this!
This is what I'm wondering as well. I'm thinking the voltage goes up as the fuel tank goes down. After a while, the speedo works perfectly. If we use a 12v source for power its constant, then in theory it should work.

since im in the 5 speed club im gonna look into this this weekend also. I do however need to get a harness to fit in my speedo since im an 02. Y dont one of you take a reading and find out the voltages with your speedo working then fill her up and take the voltage again? Has any one tried the constant power to the sensor?? I am not sure but i wouldnt think its a 12v i would think more like a 5volt from the ecu ??

I would think its +5 volt as well and depending on how fast the gear spins will determine the amount of resistance created, then the ECU will measure the voltage drop and translate that into speed.

Ok question - looks like speedo gear = VSS?? if so the service manual states 0 to 8-12v and its done by pulses not a set voltage apparently... This is pin 3 on c-17 which is already known. I dont see any reason to use pin 4? Acording to what i see - pins from the speedo gear 1 goes to 12v battery, 2 goes to ground (middle pin) 3 produces pulses i would guess?? Pin 3 is connected to pin 1 with a resistor in order to test the operation of the speedo gear and produces pulses...

^ yep pulses, which would then turn into a digital signal in the ecu, and then sent to the speedo. i think... idk anymore lol

i dont think that the ecu sends the signal to the gauge i think it goes to the gauge as well as the ecu and both get the same signal from the wiring...

that would make sense but in this diagram, it shows that the radio cluster and cruise come out of pin 80 on the pcm on one wire. TO me that would be digital, because I haven't had a problem with my radio sense I did the 5 speed swap.

Excellent! Any specific way you wired the connections?

Pin 3 aka yellow/black goes to yellow black on that harness c17. On the harness there is a big red wire that provides ignition 12v its the only fat red wire on the harness - use that for 12 and connect to pin 1 on the speedo which is black blue. Pin 2 is grnd anywhere should be fine. Thats it works like the auto speedo.
