haha the old R33's caused a lot of debate. i have sold them...well swapped them.

i traded a mate for the rays 57F's

here's how the 33's look on his legnum:

they're fairly cheap for a set (under 1000AUD) just need to be modified to suit a mitsu hub...then obviously you guys would need freight from oz to usa

hey guys, thought i'd update this. a lot has happened since.

i crashed my purple one racing with was depressing, and bought a 99 FL galant vr4 in black.

thinking it'll be a real nice car, the owner always talked up how good it was and how awesome he was. sadly it was all talk.

    standard stuff:
    black
    manual
    no ayc
    sunroof
    recaros
    pfl hi vis dash conversion
    retrimmed nardi wheel

    mods:
    crap front pipes
    blown clutch
    shagged engine mounts
    good hard piping and cooler
    shitty battery relocation job
    3 port
    tune
    projector headlights
    some cool speakers
    black side indicators and debadged
    tien coilovers
    shit wheels
    ebc greens and slotted rotors

heaps of spared and a monster bonnet which i had to sell :(

i thought this car ticked the boxes, had heaps of good parts and i could mix and match with my old stuff and end up with a sweet car. unfortunately i sold or removed or replaced everything and put my stuff in.

just picked it up. still blinded by the joy of having a new galant

as time went on and i got stuck into it, it needed a lot of work

    clutch
    engine mounts
    LCA's
    redo the entire battery relocation
    rewire the stereo
    swap coils
    etc etc.

i wouldve been better off buying a stock car. ahh well you live you learn.

    nardi

    battery job

i was always iffy with it (ill look at it soon) and rightly so. one day i ripped it out while cornering. turns out it was held in by 3 self tapping screws RAGE!!

3 screws and some cork board!!!! wtf man

so i bolted it in with some plate and a ratchet strap

this was temporary till i could get time to do it again

then i set about putting my stuff back in

    exhaust:

my custom front pipes bottom, RPW's above

installed my custom Coil On Plug setup. and put in new sparkies too

    before:

    during:

    this is normal right? lol

so thanks to this \/ the rockers came off to be resealed. figured id paint em too

    DIY paint oven

    all reinstalled

also threw in my old catchcan

bracket is courtesy of my purple galant's broken front guard lol

then i replaced all the engine mounts.
engine and gearbox mounts are new (slightly hard then) OEM mounts
front roll stopper is a solid rubber ralliart item.

the rear was an issue. i didnt want oem and i didnt want urethane. what to do...what to do....BOOM! custom.

so i used another solid roll stopper and made a slip ring up out of aluminium.

and a few spacers on each side

    and bob's your uncle

so the engine is now supported by new mounts and roll stopping is courtesy of solid rubber chunks. and it wont plastically deform over time like urethane.

    then i started cleaning...
this shows a good before/after of the door frame. there was red bull dust everywhere! and it get caked on hard

then rewired everything, altenator whine is gone. stereo rewired. sub and two amps are in. did some light dynamatting too. amazing stuff.

moved the battery, put in the kill switch and retrimmed up a little panel

im glad i rewired it all. the battery had no fuse at all and no kill switch...and this was the wiring job i found under the back seat wrapped in tape and conduit. no heat shrink

and this in the main (undersized) power cable

what a fecking joke. that was a professional install too...

    later on:

    WHEELS ARRIVED! action time

    rubber lip was put on
    origins are on
wound the coils down 5mm front and 8mm more compared to the purple galant
fixed the broken FL grill. VW gti inspired grill is getting another run. works better with black.

then i got defected 5 days later had to raise the car and take the wheels off :(

thanks to our laws, if i get defected again for too low within 1 year i can face court and have my car impounded for 48 hours.

murdering and raping is fine, just dont drive a modded car...f*ckin stupid government

anywho, im selling the origin DNA's (18x9+30) and want to get some enkei RPF1's or maybe something 17x9+35ish that'll clear big brakes and allow me to fit a 255 or 245 tyre. i love greddy's galant, but want 17's instead.

17x9 +35, Advan RC or TC. PLEASE.

New car looks good dude! Looked rigged when you got it though.

BTW, for all the dudes looking for R33 wheels...they're not that hard to find if you know where to look.

The car is looking amazing. It's a good thing you got the car and fixed everything. If the previous owner kept it, it probably would have burned to the ground. Everything worked out for a reason, you saved the galant's life.

you can fit 255s with a 17x9 anywhere from +35 to +27 offset, there's lots of good wheels in that range.

cheers guys, it definitely needed some loving. its one of like 20 black manual facelift galant vr4's with recaros and sunroof. with the new momo and a hi-vis dash i think it's got the best oem package there is.

momo (retrimmed, plain black and perforated black with red stitching):

do usdm galants share the same "brake face to brake face" track as the jdm ones?

tempted to look into 235/255 stagger too. dunno how it'll effect the handling though. as long as it doesnt snap oversteer im happy.

  17. #57
im so envious of the vr4 interiors!
what do you mean by "brake face to brake face" track?

well from my understanding, normal track is measured from centre of the tire to centre of the tire. im interested in finding out if the distance from the face where the wheel sits on the brake disc, to the other, is the same on the UDSM and JDM models, cause they have differnt k frame/struts/strut tops etc

you guys got boned on the interiors :( someone should import euro LHD interiors. would make a mint

  19. #59
oooooh! i see what you are saying now. im sure they are completely different. i think the jdm models are shorter than the usdm models and the struts are different lengths apart. time to get the tape measure out LOL

I know it sounds nerdy but i love the paneling and the seats. i notice some of them have black and blue interior and some are red and black. is that a trim difference? like vr4's have red and black and base galants have blue and black?

vr4's were red and black in facelifts, and around 2000 they got grey suede with a square modern pattern in them. the jdm and euro sports (non turbo v6) got the blue. i want the blue but i'd need the wheel restitched lol
